LaLiga Clubs With Biggest Market Value Increase In 2021

LaLiga was ruling football for years but it has faced serious challenges like leaving the stars and rebuilding stadiums. Let's find out which are LaLiga clubs with biggest market value increase in 2021.

LaLiga is having a hard time mainly because its giant teams are in difficult situations. Real Madrid lost captain

Sergio Ramos

to Paris Saint-Germain while they have to put their hopes on players like Eden Hazard and

Gareth Bale

. The good news for Los Blancos is upgrading Santiago Bernabeu stadium into one of the most advanced stadiums in the world. Barcelona is also working on a new stadium, but the loss of their captain left a bigger mark.

Legendary

Lionel Messi

finally left Barcelona for the same destination as Ramos. Atletico Madrid welcomed the chance and won the LaLiga title. Atletico also welcomed Griezmann’s return and despite the initial disagreement with their fans, the French striker is finally settled. Atletico surpassed Barca and became the second

most valuable club in LaLiga

. Given that Barcelona’s value had decreased by €220, Atletico didn’t need to do much to claim it.

Read on to find out more about LaLiga clubs with biggest market value growth in 2021:

LaLiga has changed significantly in the past year. At the top, there were always Barca, Real Madrid, and Atletico Madrid, and the rest struggling for the fourth position. But the financial crisis due to the pandemic and lockdown has changed everything.

Elche - €33.70m to €47.10m

After five years in lower tiers, Elche returned to LaLiga in 2020-21. As one of the

LaLiga clubs with biggest market value increase in 2021

, Elche had a good start and collected their 3rd victory in the 7th fixture standing on 11th. Followed by the 3rd win that was against Valencia, Elche failed to win another LaLia match in 2020. After 16 winless matches, their manager Jorge Almiron was sacked and replaced by Fran Escriba on 14 February 2021.

Escriba won his first match against Eibar. They collected a precious victory over Sevilla in March. It was enough for Elche to temporarily avoid the relegation zone. The free transfer of

Pablo Piatti

was the most notable move Elche had in the January transfer window. Two weeks before the 2020-21 season ends, Elche was 19th, and by winning the last two matches against Cadiz and Athletic Bilbao they escaped relegation.

In the 2021 summer window, Elche made plenty of transfers. First of all, they activated the Buyout clause for their Argentinian players

Lucas Boye

and Ivan Marcone. They also loaned Kiko Casilla and Dario Benedetto from Leeds United and Marseille. Lucas Perez and

Omar Mascarell

were the final signings for Elche in 2021. Mascarell is currently the most valuable player on the team. In the 17th LaLiga matchday, Elche is in 16th place with 3 wins, the exact rank they had last year this time.

Osasuna - €76.00m to €93.80m

The Basque club has been in the good hands of Jagoba Arrasate for the last couple of years. Osasuna got La Liga promotion under Arrasate in 2019. As one of the

increased LaLiga clubs' market value in 2021

, Their second season back in the Spanish top tier was 2020-21. Osasuna’s season was in terrible form at the beginning of 2021. They defeated Granada in January and ended their 13 match winless streak.

It was the turning point of the season because they collected 3 more victories in February. They started climbing the table up and at the end, they finished in 11th place. Osasuna loaned

Manu Sanchez

from Atletico Madrid in the January transfer window. The left back’s contract expires at the end of June 2022. For the current season, Arrasate reinforced his squad with a few signings. They activated the €8 million buyout clause for

Ante Budimir

.

Kike Garcia joined on a free transfer.

Jon Moncayola

is the joint most valuable player on the team, along with Chimy Avila and Budimir. Moncayola was valued at €3 million before 2021, but his market value has increased by €6 million. Osasuna had a great start to the 2021-22 season by winning 5 games out of the first nine league fixtures. Despite their form declining afterward, they collected only two points less than Barcelona after 17 matches.

Celta de Vigo - €122.00m to €141.30m

Celta had a managerial change in November 2020. They won once in the first 10 matches of 2020-21. Eduardo Coudet replaced Oscar Garcia while Celta was at the bottom of the table. Before 2021 January, Celta had 6 La Liga matches and Coudet’s side won five of them and had one draw. Their great form in the last few weeks of 2020 resulted in Celta rising in rank up to 8th.

They started 2021 poorly and had only one victory in January and February. In the winter transfer window,

Augusto Solari

joined Celta from the Argentinian team, Racing Club for only €500 thousand . Solari is currently worth €4 million. As one of the LaLiga clubs with biggest market value growth in 2021, Celta won once in March but they made it up by collecting 6 victories in April and May, including their fifth consecutive win that was against Barcelona.

During the summer transfer window, Celta signed

Javi Galan

from Huesca on a €4 million deal. Franco Cervi came from Benfica in similar terms to Galan. In the 2021-22 season, they waited 4 match days to claim their first victory.

Renato Tapia

is the most valuable player for Celta with €18 million market value. His value has increased by more than €15 million in 2021.

Rayo Vallecano - €25.40m to €53.60m

Rayo Vallecano is the first recently promoted team of the

LaLiga clubs with biggest market value increase in 2021

. 2021 started with two back to back wins for Rayo Vallecano. On the last day of January, they defeated Segunda Division champion, Espanyol in an away match. Rayo was the last team to reach the 2020-21 promotion playoffs. They earned LaLiga promotion after beating Leganes and Girona.

Andoni Iraola, the 39 years old manager of Rayo, decided to make Fran Garica’s deal permanent. Garcia was on loan from Real Madrid Castilla from September 2020. His market value has doubled in 2021 and has reached €3 million.

Unai Lopez

is currently the most valuable Rayo player but he is on loan from Athletic Bilbao. Lopez played for Rayo in the 2017-18 Segunda Division, which was also on loan from Athletic.

Radamel Falcao

is probably the only worldwide well known player in the Rayo squad. The Colombian striker’s transfer was free from the Turkish club, Galatasaray. Sergi Guardiola, Kevin Rodrigues, and Martin Merquelans are the other loanees at Rayo for 2021-22.

Randy Nteka

and Pathe Ciss are the notable full transfers of the summer window. Despite losing the first 2 league fixtures, Rayo surprised everyone with 4 wins and 1 draw they had in the next 5 matches. They finished the first half of the season with 30 points.

RCD Espanyol Barcelona - €71.00m to €102.50m

2019-20 went awful for Espanyol and they were relegated with only five wins. They didn't hold back and responded by claiming Segunda Division winter champion. The Barcelona based team signed Keidi Bare, Oscar Gil, Landry Dimata, and Fran Merida for less than €3 million in combined fees. Oscar Gil's current market value is €2.5 million, which is five times his transfer fee. 2021 January was the time Espanyol lost on the table.

As one of the increased LaLiga clubs' market value in 2021, they had a close race with Mallorca for the title. The two rivals faced in February where an away victory became the turning point of the season. Espanyol finished the season with the same points as Mallorca but Espanyol had the head-to-head advantage. They were automatically promoted to La Liga as Segunda Division champion.

They prepared themselves for La Liga with a few transfers in the summer window. The best known of them is

Aleix Vidal

, who came on a free transfer. The former Barcelona and Sevilla player used to be a part of Espanyol youth academy. The most valuable player on the team is also a newcomer.

Yangel Herrera

is on loan from Manchester City and his market value is €18 million. Leon Moron and Manu Morlanes are the other high value players Espanyol has loaned.

Valencia - €226.20m to €257.80m

The chain reaction of changes led Valencia to struggle at the mid-table. They had three different managers in 2019-20 plus plenty of transfers. Javi Garcia became their manager to start 2020-21, but he was dismissed in May. As 2021 January began, Valencia was in 17th place. They loaned 3 players in the January transfer window. Ferro came from Benfica and

Patrick Cutrone

was loaned out from Wolverhampton.

Christian Oliva

and Cristiano Piccini were loanees from Italian club Cagliari.

The managerial change didn't much affect their ranking in the standings and they finished the season in 13th place. Marcos Andre joined Valencia from Real Valladolid in a €8.5 million deal.

Dimitri Foulquier

was the next expensive transfer Valencia had in the 2021 transfer window. His market value is the same at €2.5 as his transfer fee was. Valencia loaned Helder Costa from Leeds United for a season. Costa’s market value is €8 but there’s no buyout clause in the deal.

Unlike Costa, Valencia has an option to buy Omar Alderete from Hertha by paying €7.5 million. Carlos Soler and Jose Gaya are the most valuable players on the team but

Gonçalo Guedes

has more impact for Valencia to be among LaLiga clubs with biggest market value increase in 2021.

Mallorca - €35.50m to €70.10m

Real Mallorca is the last recently promoted team of the LaLiga clubs with biggest market value increase in 2021. Mallorca’s total market value has increased more than Rayo and Espanyol.

Luis Garcia

was appointed as Mallorca's manager after they were relegated. Garcia started the 2020-21 Segunda Division with a loss, but after that, his side was unbeaten for 18 consecutive league matches. From November their race with Espanyol began and lasted until the end of the season. The away victory over Rayo made Mallorca league leader.

Despite their leading position during the January window, Mallorca didn’t have a major transfer window. Mallorca lost the lead to Espanyol in March and ended up as runner-up and promoted back to LaLiga. For 2021-22 LaLiga, they had some arrivals. The American talent,

Matthew Hoppe

was the most expensive one of them. Mallorca signed him on a  €3.5 million deal with Schalke 04. Amath Ndiaye is the other notable transfer for Mallorca. He was signed by Gefate for €3million.

The most valuable players on the team are two Asian newcomers and both are valued at €10 million. The Korean midfielder,

Kang-In Lee

was signed from Valencia on a free transfer. The Japanese talent. Takefusa Kubo is on loan from Real Madrid. Mallorca is having a good season in LaLiga and reached 12th place after beating title defender Atletico Madrid.

Villareal - €288.10m to €333.90m

2021 was a big year for Villarreal because they won the UEFA Europa League for the first time in their history. The only continental title Villareal had won before 2021 were two back-to-back UEFA Intertoto Cups. Villarreal started the 2020-21 season with

Unai Emery

, the former coach of Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain. Emery had the ambition to prove himself worthy after he was sacked by Arsenal. His side spent almost all of the first half of the season in the Champions League qualification zone.

Villareal had a busy summer involved in the transfer market and signing players like

Dani Parejo

and Francis Coquelin. During the 2021 January window, they only purchased Etienne Capoue for €2 million. For the rest of the season, their form declined at LaLiga but Europa League was totally different. Villareal reached the final without a single defeat and Emery even had the chance to avenge Arsenal in the semi finals.

The Yellow Submarine beat Manchester United in the final and won the title and qualified for the 2021-22 Champions League. They spent €23.5 million to sign

Arnaut Danjuma

that made him the record arrival at the club. Serge Aurier joined Villareal on a free transfer while his value is currently €15 million. Villareal reached the knock-out phase of the Champions League behind Manchester United in their group.

Sevilla - €350.40m to €415.90m

Julen Lopetegui

found his salvation at Sevilla after winning the Europa League in 2020. Sevilla is now kind of Real Madrid for the Europa League competition. The 2020-21 La Liga campaign wasn't good at the start but after December Sevilla started climbing up the table. In January 2021 they were in 6th place but after that Sevilla kept 4th place behind the well-known giants: Atlético Madrid, Real Madrid, and Barcelona.

In the 2020-21 Champions League they were in the same group as the champion Chelsea and managed to advance to the knock-out phase. They finished the group stage with 1 point less than Chelsea. In the round of 16, they faced Borussia Dortmund and they were defeated 5-4 in aggregate. During the January transfer window, Sevilla embraced a golden opportunity and signed the rebel Atalanta player,

Papu Gomez

for only €5 million. The Argentinian striker is valued at €9 million but due to his confrontation with the Atalanta manager, they let him go to Seville.

Finishing 4th and promotion for Champions League were the green light for an active transfer window in summer. The €20 million Tottenham winger,

Erik Lamela

joined Sevilla on a free transfer. Rafa Mir, Gonzalo Montiel, and Thomas Delaney were the other notable signings. Sevilla faces Barcelona in the LaLiga last match of 2021 while Sevilla is 2nd of the standing and Barcelona is 8th.

Real Sociedad - €319.60m to €387.00m

Real Sociedad is the last one of the LaLiga clubs with biggest market value increase in 2021. Sociedad’s fly peaked when they won Copa del Rey in 2020, which was their first trophy since 1987 except for the Segunda Division championship in 2010. Imanol Alguacil had one arrival in his squad and that was

David Silva

. The former Manchester City returned to Spain on a free transfer to Sociedad for 2020-21.

They started the season very well with 7 victories from the first 10 matches, which made them the league’s leader for a while. In January they dropped to 3rd place. Sociedad signed

Carlos Fernandez

from Sevilla or €10 million. Sociedad was in the 5th rank for the majority of the season and finished the league in the same position. Matthew Ryan and Alexander Sorloth were the most notable arrivals of the summer transfer window. Sorloth came on loan but Ryan was permanently transferred from Brighton. Barcelona was their first opponent in LaLiga. After losing the first match, Sociedad was unbeaten for 13 straight league matches.

They reached first place in October but dropped to second after 4 consecutive defeats.

Mikel Oyarzabal

is currently the team’s most valuable player. His value has increased by €10 million during 2021 and has reached €70 million. Mikel Merino and Alexander Isac are the next valuable players and both of them are worth €40 million. In 2021, Isak’s value has increased by €28 million, while Merino’s has not changed.
