On 12 August, he made his competitive debut in the 2014 UEFA Super Cup at Cardiff City Stadium, playing 66 minutes before being replaced by fellow debutant Iago Aspas in a 0–2 defeat to Real Madrid; 11 days later, he opened the scoring in a 1–1 home draw against Valencia CF.

Vidal scored twice and assisted Kevin Gameiro in a 3–0 home win against ACF Fiorentina in the UEFA Europa League semi-finals on 7 May 2015, in a game in which he played right-back before Coke entered the field in the 58th minute – he was often used in that role by manager Unai Emery during the campaign. Twenty days later, he made his debut in the final, a 3–2 win over FC Dnipro in Warsaw.


Vidal signed a five-year deal with

FC Barcelona

on June 7, 2015, for €18 million-plus four add-ons. On the next day, he had a medical exam and was also formally presented. He was not allowed to play competitive games until January 2016 due to a FIFA embargo imposed on the club for violating restrictions on signing underage foreign players.

Vidal made his official debut for the Blaugrana on January 6, 2016, replacing Dani Alves halfway through the second half of a 4–1 Copa Del Rey home victory over former club Espanyol. Luis Enrique, his boss, then ostracized him absolutely.
