Serie A Clubs With Biggest Market Value Increase In 2021

Serie A faced kind of a revolution in 2021. From ending Juventus' empire and top stars, leaving the league to the COVID effects and the lockdown. Let's find out the increased Serie A clubs' market value in 2021.

Inter ended Juventus’ reign in Serie A but Bianconeri still is the most valuable in Italy. Despite the departure of their superstar player, Cristiano Ronaldo, Juventus’ squad is currently worth more than €600 million, according to TransferMarkt.com, and is the

most valuable Serie A club in 2021

. The title defender, Inter is the second most valuable team. Third place belongs to Napoli, the same as Inter who their squad is valued at around €520 million. Milan is the fourth most valuable team and all four clubs have had their market value decreased since the beginning of 2021.

The newcomers Salernitana and Venezia are the least expensive teams in Serie A and both are on our list of Serie A clubs with biggest market value increase in 2021. Despite Empoli also being in Serie B last year, they still value more than Spezia. The two most valuable clubs also have the lowest balance in the league. The departure of their main superstars,

Ronaldo

and

Lukaku

has affected their squad's total market value.

Lautaro Martinez

is currently the most valuable player in Serie A. Followed by the Argentinian striker are Matthias de Ligt, Federico Chiesa, and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

Read on to find out more about increased Serie A clubs' market value in 2021:

According to an unwritten rule, all the newcomers made it to

Serie A clubs with biggest market value growth in 2021

, but non of the last three Scudetto winning clubs are on the list.

Bologna - €140m to €145m

In January 2019

Siniša Mihajlovic

replaced

Filippo Inzaghi

and started his work at Bologna while they were in the relegation zone of Serie A. At the end of that season, Bologna not only avoided relegation but finished 10th in the standings. Mihajlovic did not leave his team when he announced that he’s battling a serious illness. Bologna finished 12th in the 2019-20 Serie A and they managed to defeat mighty opponents like Napoli, Atalanta, Roma, and Inter.

In 2021 January, they were stuck on a draw streak. To the end of 2020-21, they won 6 matches and stood in 12th place. One of the reasons for Bologna being on the list of

Serie A clubs with biggest market value increase in 2021

is their transfers. In the 2021 summer transfer window, Bologna sold Takehiro Tomiyasu to Arsenal. The deal was around €19 million, making Tomiyasu the second biggest departure for Bologna.

Musa Barrow joined Bologna from Atalanta and the fee was €14.5 million while Barrow was valued at near €20 million. The Gambian forward is currently the most valuable player on the team. Next to him is Riccardo Orsolini with €15 million in market value. Marko Arnautovic was a well-known signing by Bologna. The Austrian striker came from Shanghai to join Mihajlovic's team. Arnautovic was valued at €10 million but Bologna only paid €3 million in fees for him.

Spezia - €56m to €75m

2020-21 was the first-ever season of Spezia in Serie A. The praised manager Vincenzo Italiano led them to Serie A. In the top tier of Italian football, Spezia continued the wonderful results. Spezia collected two victories before the beginning of 2021. On January 6th they defeated Napoli in San Paolo stadium. The upcoming wins were against Sampdoria, Sassuolo, and Milan. Milan was the league's leader and the loss against Spezia overthrew their lead.

As one of the increased Serie A clubs' market value in 2021, Spezia eliminated Roma from Coppa Italia by a 3-0 away victory but Napoli beat them in the quarter-finals. They finished the first season in 15th place.

Giulio Maggiore

is the captain and the most valuable player for Spezia.

Janis Antiste

is their most notable transfer. Antiste joined Spezia from Toulouse on a €4.5 million deal. Kevin Amian like Antiste came from Toulouse.

Eddie Salcedo is a strange case of Spezia. He is valued at €8.5 million but he is on loan from Genoa. The point is he isn't a Genoa player either and Genoa loaned him from Inter. Given to the overachievement in Spezia, Italiano left for Fiorentina and

Thiago Motta

took his place. They have won 3 out of 16 matches in 2020-21 Serie A. The bad news for Spezia was they were banned by FIFA from four transfer windows, starting in January 2022.

Salernitana - €16m to €36m

Salernitana is spending their first season in Serie A. They got the promotion by finishing as runner-ups in the 2020-21 Serie B. They started an unbeaten streak starting on January 23 and ended with the defeat against Lecce on the 31st match day. They won 6 of their remaining matches before the season-ending. Fabrizio Castori, who led Salernitana to Serie A, was sacked due to the poor start to the 2021-22 season and Stefano Colantuono replaced him. They had two big signings in the 2021 summer transfer window.

Franck Ribéry

joined the newcomers on a free transfer and they offered him the number seven and captain's armband. Ribéry didn't feel good when his last club, Fiorentina released him and wanted to prove he still had things to offer. The other big sign-in was

Simy

. The Nigerian striker surprisingly scored 20 goals for Crotone last season but it wasn't enough to prevent their relegation.

Simy was loaned to Salernitana for a season to stay in Serie A. They have many loan players in their squad like Luca Ranieri, Mamadou Coulibaly, and Federico Bonazzoli. Former Inter and Torino player, Joel Obi also signed up for free. Salernitana is currently at the bottom of the Serie A standings. They have two wins and two draws from their first 16 Serie A matches.

Sampdoria - €99m to €121m

Claudio Ranieri

left Sampdoria as he promised and went to Watford. As one of the Serie A clubs with biggest market value increase in 2021, Sampdoria finished 9th under Ranieri, which was one of their best seasons lately. They defeated the league's champions Inter on January 6th. Two former Inter players,

Antonio Candreva

and Keita Balde scored their goals.

Sampdoria also beat Udinese and Parma during January. They collected 5 more victories in March and April. One of them was a home win against Roma. Mikkel Damsgaard is the most valuable player for Sampdoria. The Danish winger was one of the most exciting players of Euro 2020. His market value at the beginning of 2021 was €8 million and today it has reached €20 million. Goalkeeper Emil Audero is the next valuable player. The 24 years old was signed by Juventus where

Gianluigi Buffon

and Wojciech Szczęsny didn't let him appear more than once for Juventus.

Audero was valued at €10 million at the beginning of 2021, but his value is now €14 million. Mohamed Ihattaren is a valuable loan, from Juventus. Morten Thorsby is another Sampdoria player with a significant increase in market value. He was valued at €2.5 million before 2021 but his value has increased and he is now a €7 million footballer. Ranieri's replacement, Roberto D'Aversa is having a hard time at the club because Sampdoria's chairman Massimo Ferrero resigned followed by his arrest for alleged financial crimes.

Fiorentina - €223m to €254m

Since 2019 that Rocco Benito Commisso bought Fiorentina in 2019, the club has been planning to grow its brand. Despite the success of business plans, they had 5 managerial changes at the same time.

Cesare Prandelli

was Fiorentina’s head coach at the beginning of 2021. He replaced Giuseppe Iachini after he was sacked the day after a 2-0 loss to AC Milan in November. In the last week of Serie A in 2020, they beat Juventus with 3 goals at Turin. Alexander Kokori was the only notable arrival for Fiorentina in the 2021 January transfer window. Viola signed him for €4.5 million the same amount as his market value at the time.

The biggest trophy Fiorentina won in 2021 was finding a gem named

Dusan Vlahovic

. The Serbian striker’s market value was €16 million in January 2021 but he scored almost 30 goals this year and his value increased by €34 million. Despite Vlahovic’s marvelous season scoring 21 goals, Viola stood in 13th place. Commisso hired Italiano for the 2021-22. Viola broke their transfer record for Nicolas Gonzalez. The €24 million Copa America winner left-winger has scored 2 goals and delivered 4 assists.

Atalanta - €383m to €415m

Atalanta has had a vast improvement with Gasperini in 2021. Last season, they finished third after Milanese clubs and in the current season, they are in the top four. With three consecutive champions league qualifications and finishing third for three seasons in Serie A, Atalanta has had its best run and broke several of its records. In the summer transfer window of 2021, they refused to sell

Duvan Zapata

to Inter Milan and got Juan Musso for €22 million from Udinese, who was a candidate to replace

Samir Handanovic

at Inter.

Since the beginning of 2021, Atalanta’s market value has increased by €32 million. A part of this increase is their records, good performances in Serie A, and being in the Champions League. Another part is because of their players’ market values increasing in 2021. Since joining from KRC GENK, Joakim Maehle’s market value has almost doubled. He joined Atalanta at the beginning of 2021 with a fee of €12 million and now his market value is about €21 million.

Luis Muriel

’s market value also has increased by about €9 million. Muriel had the most goals scored in the previous season for Atalanta with 22. Ruslan Malinovsky has been one of the best Serie A attacking midfielders who scored in the Coppa Italia final against Juventus and his market value has increased by about €10 million as well.

Torino - €148 to €186m

The awful start to the 2020-21 season for Torino resulted in the sacking of their manager

Marco Giampaolo

in January 2021. Giampaolo’s side won twice in the first 18 matches of the season and they were in 18th place. Antonio Sanabria and Rolando Mandragora were two notable arrivals for the Granata during the 2021 January transfer window. Unlike Mandragora, Sanabria’s transfer was permanent with €7 million in fees.

Giampaolo’s successor, Davide Nicola, after narrowly escaping relegation, was not confirmed for the current season.

Ivan Juric

is the head coach of Torino in 2021-22 and his side collected the 5th victory in the 13th week while they achieved the 5th victory in the 30th week last season. As one of the

Serie A clubs with biggest market value increase in 2021

, Torino loaned a few high-value players like Dennis Praet, Josip Brekalo, and Tommaso Pobega but

Andrea Belotti

is still their most valued player.

The Brazilian defender Bremer has the biggest market value increase among Torino players. He is now a €15 million player after his value increased by €9 million.  David Zima is the most valuable permanent sign-in by Torino in 2021. Like Breme, Zima is also a center-back. Armando Izzo and Wilfried Singo are the other high-value Torino players.

Empoli - €31m to €77m

In the previous season, Empoli fought its way back to Serie A. In the last 20 seasons, they were relegated four times in 2004, 2008, 2017, and 2019 and were promoted to Serie A in 2005, 2014, 2018, and this season. The promotion is one of the main reasons for the club’s market value growth. After sixteen matches in Serie A, Empoli is in the middle of the table with 23 points and has won its game in Coppa Italia’s first round. Their head coach, Aurelio Andreazzoli, started his third spell at Empoli this season, after being sacked from Genoa on October 21, with the team in the second to the last position.

In the summer transfer window of 2021, one of their notable transfers was

Andrea Pinamonti

which is now on loan from Inter Milan. He is now their top goalscorer in Serie A with four goals. After Pinamonti,

Federico Di Francesco

had three goals in Serie A. He is also on loan from SPAL.

Nedim Bajrami, the Zurich club Grasshoppers attacking midfielder, joined Empoli in September 2020 for 500 thousand euros. Since February 2021, his market value has increased by about five million. There are also several Empoli players like Nicolas Haas, Leonardo Mancuso, and Leo Stulac, who had an increase in their market value.

Venezia - €12m to €69m

Venezia got the Serie A promotion after 19 years through the play-offs at the end of 2020-21. Before the beginning of 2021, they were in 8th place in the Serie B standings. They had an unbeaten streak during January and February that lasted for 8 straight matches. They had reached the second place before the streak broke. Their most notable transfer was loaning

Sebastiano Esposito

from Inter.

Venezia finished Serie B in 5th and faced Chievo, Lecce, and Cittadella in the play-offs. They couldn't celebrate the Serie A promotion with a typical Bus-Parade; instead, they took on a boat and sailed through the famous waterways of Venice. In the summer transfer window, Venezia hired several players to prepare for the 2021-22 Serie A. Ethan Ampadu is currently the most valuable player for Venezia with €15 million but he's on loan from Chelsea.

Gianluca Busio

joined Venezia from the MLS team Sporting Kansas City on a €6 million deal. The 19 years old midfielder is the club's all-time record arrival. The next most valuable Venezia player is also a newcomer. Thomas Henry was signed by Belgian club OH Leuven for €5.5 million. Among the young players, there are two experienced well-known players. The former Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero came on for free and Mattia Caldara joined on loan from Milan.

Roma - €356m to €429ma

Jose Mourinho

is probably the main reason for Roma being the leader of Serie A clubs with biggest market value increase in 2021. In the first half of 2020-21 Serie A, Roma under manager Paulo Fonseca had a relatively good situation. In January Roma was in 3rd place in the standings. After two new year victories, they had a draw against Inter followed by a 3-0 defeat in the derby against Lazio.

Their form declined towards the end of the season and in the last 12 matches of the league, they had only 3 victories and 6 losses. The most notable transfer of Roma in the 2021 January window was the return of Stephan El Shaarawy. El Shaarawy came on a free transfer while his market value was €8 million at the time. Giallorossi finished 7th and missed both the UEFA Champions League and Europa League instead they qualified for the inaugural UEFA Europa Conference League.

Mourinho started rebuilding Roma by letting many excessive players go.

Edin Dzeko

, Javier Pastore, and Pedro were among the departed players. Roma spent around €125 million on Mourinho's targets in the transfer market, which made it one of the most expensive transfer windows in the history of the club. Bryan Reynolds and Roger Ibañez were two players Mourinho approved to become permanent.
