A Brief Review on History and Honors of Atletico Madrid Club

Best Atletico Madrid Defenders of all time

On 26 April 1903, Club Atlético de Madrid, meaning "Athletic Club of Madrid"- generally known as Atlético Madrid in English or simply as Atlético or Atleti- was founded by three Basque students living in Madrid. Later on, in 1904 some of the dissident members of Real Madrid had joined them. They started their official matches wearing blue and white halved shirts.

Athletic's first ground was the Ronda de Vallecas-the working-class area on the south side of the city. After several years they chose Estadio Vicente Calderón stadium as their ground, they played there since 1966 to 2017 and then moved to Metropolitano Stadium. Having passed several years of ups and downs, Atletico Madrid now is the third most successful club in Spanish football – behind Real Madrid C.F. and FC Barcelona.
