Phil Neville slams Man United for not backing former manager Moyes

Manchester United terminated David Moyes after ten months in command, but Phil Neville believes he is finally proving his worth.

David Moyes

, according to

Phil Neville

, has proven

Manchester United

wrong and earned more time at

Old Trafford

. Neville left United as a player to join David Moyes at

Everton

, then returned in 2013 as part of the new manager's backroom staff.

However, after being appointed with the support of departed United great Alex Ferguson, Moyes' stint did not proceed as planned. The Red Devils were the

Premier League

winners last season but ended eighth, and Moyes was fired with four games left.

Moyes has had a difficult career since then, battling at Real Sociedad and being relegated with Sunderland before regaining his reputation with two stays at West Ham. The 59-year-old will lead the Hammers out in a Europa League semi-final against Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday, with the club on track for a second season in Europe after suffering relegation when he returned to London Stadium.

Meanwhile, United, who sit one place ahead of West Ham in sixth place, have named Erik ten Hag as their sixth manager since Ferguson's departure (including incumbent interim boss Ralf Rangnick).

Neville believes the club would have been better served if the individual designated as Ferguson's successor had been given more time. "If you look back today, the lack of time that he was given was simply wrong," Inter Miami's head coach told Sky Sports. "The lack of backing and finance in terms of the investment that other managers had was completely incorrect."

"I'd say that's the most important thing." We both required another season when we left the club at the time. Ten months at Manchester United wasn't enough, especially during a tough era when the greatest manager of all time had just left." That summer, he had incredible ideas to move the club ahead.

"I'd think that not giving David Moyes more time was arguably one of the worst blunders United made since Sir Alex left. I believe he has demonstrated at West Ham that over time, he can construct a football team that is sustainable, of high quality, and successful. When he was fired by Manchester United, that was certainly one of the biggest disappointments in football for me."
