Chaos and Coronation: The Story of Zamalek’s Confederation of African Football Cup Victory

How Zamalek’s enthusiastic celebrations turned into a scene of chaos and turmoil, after their heroic victory over Morocco’s Renaissance Berkane, with the absence of their captain Shikabala and organizational oversteps that caused a huge uproar in the corridors of CAF

The attendees at the coronation ceremony of Zamalek Club with the Confederation of African Football Cup noticed a great deal of chaos and unbelievable turmoil, after the club’s victory with a score of (1-0) over Morocco’s Renaissance Berkane Club at Cairo Stadium, on Sunday evening. The second leg match had witnessed a victory for Renaissance Berkane Club on its ground with a score of (2-1).

Thus, the white team has won this continental title for the second time in its history, after the previous victory in the 2018-2019 edition over the same Moroccan team.

The Zamalek coronation ceremony was not well organized, as a large number of fans and players’ friends entered the field to celebrate, which caused the annoyance of CAF officials.

Zamalek’s captain, Mahmoud Shikabala, and striker Saif Al-Jaziri brought their children to the coronation platform, which contradicts the CAF protocol during the cup reception.

This turmoil caused annoyance to Shikabala and his colleagues during the lifting of the cup and the celebration of the title, and during the taking of commemorative photos of this achievement.

It is worth mentioning that the player Shikabala was absent from the two final matches of the Confederation Cup due to his injury in the anterior muscle.
