Aguero calls Messi critics “a**holes”

The ex-striker has backed his former international team-mate when he was slammed following the Champions League battle against Los Blancos.

Sergio Aguero

has hit out at critics of

Lionel Messi

, calling them “a**holes” for denigrating the Argentina international.

Paris Saint-Germain

vanquished

Real Madrid

1-0 in their first-leg of the

Champions League

last-16 and Messi was heavily criticized when he failed to deliver the penalty and didn’t do much in attack.

His former international teammate Aguero backed the PSG player and said that the media in France has it for the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner.

Speaking on his Twitch channel, Aguero said:

"Leo played well, he broke lines. I'm not saying that because he's a friend, but because he played hard. He was good and very active.

"In France, magazines and newspapers killed him. They are a**holes. I had an interview scheduled with a French magazine, but I said: 'No, because I support Leo Messi. Period. So goodbye, see you soon.' Now I'm angry."

The highlight of criticism for Messi’s display against Real Madrid was him missing the penalty, with Thibaut Courtois pulling off a save in the 61st minute.

Kylian Mbappe was the one to score the winner against Madrid in the stoppage time and the ex-Barcelona talisman was heavily criticized.

French newspaper

 L'Equipe

scored Messi three out of 10 in ratings, as well as the pundits and commentators with ex-PSG forward Jerome Rothen taking it to the next level to say he offer PSG “nothing”.

He told

RMC Sport

:

"Of course, in terms of merchandising, it's wonderful to have attracted Leo Messi. People come to see Messi play at PSG. But you have to recognise that in a sporting context, he brings nothing to PSG.

"The biggest problem is that this was a great match, that's where we expect the great players to perform and tonight it was more of a drag than anything else.

"There are technical errors, losses of the ball, the missed penalty - but it can happen to anyone. It's, above all, his behaviour. He looks down at his boots, it looks like he's not happy."
