Premier League Clubs With Biggest Market Value Increase In 2021

2021 has been the year for recovery in football. Let’s check out which Premier League clubs have done a better job financially in 2021.

Premier League is by far the most valuable football league. In 2021, while many giant European clubs were struggling with the Covid-19 pandemic, English clubs were on the higher ground. The two finalists of the Champions League bought the most expensive players on the market. Manchester United hired

Cristiano Ronaldo

to overshadow

Jadon Sancho

. Arsenal and Aston Villa have spent an unexpected amount on the transfer market.

Buying top players is just one way of growing the club’s market value. Results themselves directly influence players’ prices. There is a back door to

PL clubs with the biggest market value growth in 2021

and that is getting promotion from EFL Championship.

Manchester City

, the most valuable and champion of the league, is not on the list of Premier League clubs with the biggest market value increase in 2021.

Read on to find out more about increased Premier League clubs' market value in 2021:

Liverpool, as the fifth most valuable club, didn’t take the transfer market seriously and their market value has dropped by £214 million.

Crystal Palace - £190m to £224.5m

As one of the

Premier League clubs with the biggest market value increase in 2021

, Crystal Palace has been constantly in the Premier League since they got a promotion in 2013. They are currently on their longest run in English top-tier football.

Roy Hodgson

took over the club after the humiliating start to 2017-18 by Frank de Boer. Hodgson secured Crystal Palace in the Premier League, and he helped good talents like Wilfried Zaha to shine.

Zaha’s value the day Hodgson came in, was less than £20 million, but today he is worth more than £40 million.

Eberechi Eze

joined the club in 2020, but his value was raised by £2 million in 2021. At the beginning of the 2021-21 season,

Patrick Vieira

replaced Hodgson and made many changes to the squad. He released 25 players and 3 others left on a free transfer. Vieira made room for fresh blood.

Joachim Anderson joined from Lyon and Marc Guehi from Chelsea. They are, respectively, the second and third most valuable players on the team. Eze used to be in second place; he's now the fourth most valuable player at Crystal Palace. Odsonne Edouard, Conor Gallagher, and Michael Olise are the next most valuable players while they are all newcomers. Vieira does not influence the squad, but the Eagles’ results have improved.

Watford - £93m to £131m

In 2018-19, Watford finished 11th, their highest final standings in the Premier League era. Javi Garcia's side even reached the FA Cup final for the first time in 35 years. Two seasons later in 2020 December, Xisco was Garcia's fifth successor and the team was competing in the Championship.

Ismaila Sarr

scored the winning goal of Xisco’s debut match in Championship and scored 8 more in the rest of the season. Sarr’s market value was £18 million at the start of 2021 and due to his remarkable performance, it has increased to £24 million. The 23 years old winger has scored 4 goals in 7 appearances in the current season of the Premier League. Imran Louza is the second most valuable player of Watford. The Moroccan midfielder has recently joined the club and only played 45 minutes.

The third one is on loan from Fenerbahce.

Ozan Tufan

has a £10 market value, and he has received more chances than Louaza to play. The next valuable player is a newcomer too but he’s famous.

Moussa Sissoko

became the captain of Watford right after arrival from Tottenham. The return of Cucho Hernandez from his loan at Getafe and the signing of Joshua King and Nicolas N’koulou on free transfers are the other notable improvements of their squad.

West Ham United - £267m to £319m

The 2020-21 season was great for West Ham United. David Moyes is regaining the former reputation he collected at Everton. West Ham finished 6th on the standings above Tottenham and Arsenal. They set many new club records such as achieving 65 points and winning 19 Premier League games in total and nine away games.

As one of the reasons to be in the list of

Premier League clubs with the biggest market value increase in 2021

, West Ham started the 2021-22 season even better than the last. At the end of 11th fixtures, they stood in 3rd place only three points behind the league’s leader Chelsea.

Tomas Soucek

was one of the best Premier League midfielders of 2020-21. His market value before permanently joining the Hammers was £18 million but at the end of the season, it was increased to £40 million, and it is currently £42. Soucek was named Hammer of 2021.

The club’s most valuable player is

Declan Rice

2020’s Hammer of the year. In January 2021 his value was around £55 million, but he is constantly growing, and the market value is now around £70 million. West Ham has got some worthy newcomers too.

Kurt Zouma

from Chelsea and Nikola Vlasic from CSKA Moscow are the two big signings for the club in the late transfer window.

Leicester City - £437m to £493m

Leicester repeated their 5th place finish in the 2020-21 Premier League season, and they are a big trouble for the title claimants. In 2021, Foxes were once again fantastic and unbelievable. With

Brendan Rodgers

at the wheel, they won their first-ever FA Cup against European champion Chelsea. Leicester also won their first Community Shield by defeating the league’s undisputed champion Manchester City.

Since their incredible championship in 2015-16, the Foxes were missing their balance, and thanks to Rodgers they have restored their form and confidence. In January, Leicester didn’t have any big arrivals but during the summer window, they signed

Boubakary Soumare

from Ligue 1 champion, Lille, and

Patson Daka

from the Austrian champion Red Bull Salzburg. The other notable signing for Leicester was Jannik Vestergaard from Southampton. These three arrivals added almost £70 million to the market value of the team.

The other reason for being in the PL clubs with the biggest market value growth in 2021, is the improvement of Leicester players under Rodger’s management. Wilfred Ndidi is currently their most valuable player while he rose from £40 to £54. The other Nigerian, Kelechi Iheanacho’s value has increased since January.

Wesley Fofana

is in great form and his value from £27 in January has passed £40 million. Caglar Soyuncu and Timothy Castagne are other players with the growth of their value.

Leeds United - £176m to £233m

Marcelo Bielsa

is finally settled in Leeds, and he’s completing his masterpiece. He joined Leeds, while they finished their last season in 13th place in the Championship and achieved third place in his first season. They got promoted to the Premier League as the champions of the Championship to avoid spy games.

2020-21 was the first season for Leeds since 2004, and they not only survived but finished in the top half of the table. During the January transfer window, they didn’t have any arrivals. Instead, they were active during the summer. The £26 million transfer of Daniel James from Manchester United and £13.5 million for Junior Firpo from Barcelona are their biggest deals. Leeds also signed

Jack Harrison

from Manchester City on an£11 million fee deal.

The main reason for Leeds to be one of the

increased Premier League clubs' market value in 2021

is the improvement of their players under Bielsa. Their most valuable player Kalvin Phillips has come through Leeds youth squads. The English midfielder had a £24 million market value in January, but his value is £36 million.

Patrick Bamford

, Raphinha, and Illan Meslier are other Leeds players with a significant increase in their market values due to their good performances.

Chelsea - £744m to £802m

Since the departure of Frank Lampard in late January and the joining of their new head coach,

Thomas Tuchel

, Chelsea has been on the rise as one of the most valuable Premier League clubs in 2021. They are dominating in the Premier League with 8 wins, two draws against Liverpool and Burnley, and only one defeat against Manchester City. In the previous season, they only lost three games since the joining of the German coach.

One of the biggest PL transfers occurred in the previous summer window.

Lukaku

joined Chelsea from Inter for a fee of £103.50 million. His market value was £90 million at the time of the transfer and hasn’t changed since. Mason Mount has the most increase in market value among Chelsea players in 2021 with over £20 million.

Antonio Rudiger

with £10 million, Andreas Christensen with £9 million, Reece James with £8, and Trevoh Chalobah with £6 million increased Chelsea’s market value as well.

Edouard Mendy

is now one of the best PL goalkeepers and his market value has increased by over 5 million and is still rising. But Lukaku’s crazy transfer was enough for Chelsea to have a 7.8 percent market value increase. However, to keep the difference positive they had to sell players like Kurt Zuma (£31.5 million to West Ham) and Tammy Abraham (£36 million to AS Roma) in the summer transfer window.

Norwich City - £100.5m to £168m

Norwich

is another club that was promoted to the Premier League for the 2021-22 season. Since the 12th week of the previous season, Norwich has been the first club in the Championship standings table. Their head coach was Daniel Farke. The 45 year old only managed two teams before Norwich and the latest was Dortmund II. Despite Farke’s good performance in the Championship, he only won one out of 11 games in the Premier League against another promoted club, Brentford.

He was sacked on November 6, 2021, and the club still doesn’t have a head coach. Because of their promotion, the club’s market value has increased 67% which is about £67 million. Some players in their 2021-22 squad like

Billy Gilmour,

Todd Cantwell, and

Christos Tzolis

had a rise in their market value ( £7 million or less) which was a factor for the increase in their club’s market value.

In the summer transfer window, they made three loans to have some experienced players in their squad.

Ozan Kabak

, last season was on loan at Liverpool and now plays for Norwich. Billy Gilmour, the former Ranger’s and now Chelsea’s young midfielder, and Brandon Williams from Manchester United, also joined Norwich on loan.

Aston Villa - £294m to  £372m

Aston Villa had a relatively good season in the 2020-21 Premier League. Despite finishing in 11th place, they were among the top half for the majority of the season. In the current season, they had a good start, but after two previous wins against Everton and Manchester United, they are now stuck on a losing streak. Appointing

Steven Gerrard

as the new manager may solve the problem with results.

Despite the huge sale of

Jack Grealish

, Aston Villa has increased the squad’s market value. Morgan Sanson is Villa’s first signing in 2021. The French midfielder joined from Marseille on a £15 million deal in January. During the summer transfer window, Aston Villa was one of the top expenditures. Emiliano Buendia came on a £33 million transfer from Norwich. Aston Villa paid a little less fee to Bayer Leverkusen for Leon Bailey.

These two signings, as well as

Danny Ings

transfer, made up for the departure of Grealish. There are some Villa players who have grown their market value in 2021. Emiliano Martinez’s value before 2021 was around £16 million, but after the Copa America championship with Argentina and his good form at Aston Villa, it was increased to £32 million. The Argentinian goalkeeper, who joined Villa last season, is their current most valuable player.

Brentford - £73m to £180m

The 2021-22 Premier League has an unfamiliar name. Brentford returned to the top tier of English football after a 74 year absence. They had the chance to do it one year earlier, but their cross city rivals, Fulham, defeated them in the play-off final. In the 2020-21 Championship, they had a streak of 20 unbeaten matches starting from 2020 October and it lasted until February 2021.

Brentford started 2021 with 5 victories and a draw in their first 6 league matches. After losing four games in February and March, they were unbeaten in the last 12 Championship games. They got promotion by winning the play-off final against Swansea City. The only notable sign-in Brentford had in the January window was hiring the Iranian player,

Saman Ghoddos

permanently. The historic promotion to the Premier League was a green light for Brentford to invest in the transfer market.

Kristoffer Ajer joined the Bees from Celtic in a £14 million deal.

Yoane Wissa

and

Frank Onyeka

were two £9 million players Brentford bought. These three players are respectively the record arrivals of the club. Followed by the strong start by the league’s newcomers, the value of almost the whole squad has increased. For example, the value of

Ivan Toney

before 2021 was less than £10 million, but now he is worth over £28 million.

Manchester United - £679m to £820m

Manchester United’s finish as runner-up in 2020-21, gave the fans good grounds for expecting. Second place was considered an over-achievement by Ole Gunnar Solskjær. Many believed that by reinforcement during the transfer market, he could challenge for the title. In the January transfer window, Manchester United only hired

Amad Diallo

from Atalanta, but the summer transfer window was vastly different.

The first transfer bomb was Jadon Sancho. The born in 2000 winger, joined United on a £77 million deal with Dortmund. When the deal was made, Sancho was more valuable than all the Manchester United players.

Raphael Varane

was the next big name, joining the Red Devils. The former Real Madrid defender came with £36 million to cover United’s defense flaws. As one of the most valuable Premier League clubs in 2021, United had already done enough for a powerful transfer window, but it wasn’t the end.

United dropped the transfer bomb by bringing Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford. Ronaldo left Juventus for Manchester and took his trademark number seven from

Edinson Cavani

. They started the league as expected, very powerful. The team’s problem started with the 25th September loss, against Aston Villa. Since then, United has lost 4 games and collected only one victory in 6 matches. Solskjær has a hard job surviving on the team’s bench until the end of the season.
