Who is Ashley Cole?

Considered during his peak days as one of the best left-backs in the world, Ashley Cole is certainly among the top three best left-backs in English football history. We are taking a look at his biography in this article.

Ashley was born in the Stepney borough of London in 1980. He started his career as a footballer with his hometown club

Arsenal

FC as a youth player.

On 25 February 2000, he signed a professional contract there, He had already made his first-team debut at the age of 18 against

Middlesbrough

FC on 30 November 1999.

This was not, however, to be followed for the rest of the season by another appearance for Arsenal. He was loaned out to

Crystal Palace

between February and May 2000 before eventually making his breakthrough at Arsenal in 2000/01, scoring one goal in 14 league matches.

He was finally able to make the most of Sylvinho's injury upon his return, and Ashley covered for him so well from the autumn of 2000 that, once Sylvinho had recovered, he kept the role.

Cole was already an integral part of the Arsenal defensive line alongside Tony Adams and Sol Campbell, winning the English Premier League and FA Cup double in 2002, the FA Cup again in the following two years and another league title as undefeated champions in 2004In his relationship with Thierry Henry and Robert Pires, in addition to his defensive skills, the left-back, who was just 23 years old, also had fantastic offensive qualities.

The title set of Arsenal was achieved in 2005 with a final cup win over

Manchester United

Cole at the Millennium Stadium, scoring his penalty kick attempt.

Cole was in contact with Arsenal's Chelsea FC rivals in 2005 over a potential move. Centered on a meeting with Cole in the presence of his lawyer Jonathan Barnett and Chelsea coach José Mourinho and Chief Executive Peter Kenyon, which was seen as evidence of contract negotiations, he was fined £ 100,000 by the Premier League without telling his then-new employer Arsenal, which was seen as evidence of contract negotiations.

Eventually, the appeal in August 2005 did not change the finding of guilt, although the size of the fine was lowered to £ 75,000. Chelsea FC and Mourinho himself were both fined £ 300,000 and £ 200,000 respectively, with the appeal also increasing the fee to £ 75,000 in the latter event.

For a term of 18 months, Barnett's license as an agent was suspended and he was also fined £ 100,000. On 18 July 2005, Cole signed a contract extension with Arsenal FC for a second year but left the club in deep bitterness a year later.

On 18 July 2006, when he had parts of his autobiography written in The Sun, a tabloid publication, in which he made serious allegations against the Arsenal commission, he opened a public verbal battle.

" Cole was omitted from the official team photo for the 2006/07 season, which sparked rumors that Cole will become a Chelsea FC player in the immediate future.

On 28 July, Arsenal official David Dein confirmed that the club was negotiating with Chelsea over Ashley Cole, but there was a big dispute about the transfer price, with Chelsea FC saying that they would not raise their bid of £ 16 million and Arsenal FC asking £ 25 million.

Negotiations continued almost the whole month of August and as the negotiations appeared to go nowhere, the two clubs decided that for five million pounds, Cole would join Chelsea FC and that William Gallas would join Arsenal as a consolation from Chelsea.

The transition was not formally completed until after the close of the transfer time and the move was not officially reported until one hour and a half after the day of the transfer deadline.

Cole had to sit out regularly due to injuries during the 2005/06 season. He came back for the Champions League final against FC Barcelona at the end of the season, where he and his team lost 2-1.

Gael Clichy has already appeared in recent years as the heir to Cole, who was willing to make the move. This was his last competitive game for Arsenal.
