Manisaspor

on loan in the second half of the 2005/06 season.

Galatasaray

Turan went back to

Galatasaray

for the 2006/07 season. He scored two goals against Mladá Boleslav and provided three assists in the Champions League qualifiers. He was praised by football experts across Europe after the first leg and went on to become a regular in the Turkish league with his goals and assists for the club and also in the Turkish national team, in which he made his debut on 16 August 2006.

He was voted the best young player in the Turkish league in the 2006/07 season. Turan played a key role in the 2007/08 season, helping the club win the league title with seven goals and 14 assists. He scored a hat-trick in a 5-3 win over championship rivals

Atlético Madrid

Turan joined Atlético Madrid for the 2011/12 season for a transfer fee of €12 million and a potential additional fee of €1 million. In case of a return to Turkey, Galatasaray Istanbul had a priority transfer right.

Turan debuted for Atlético Madrid in a home match against CA Osasuna on the second matchday of the Primera División. His first goal for Atlético Madrid came on 30 November 2011 against Celtic Glasgow which was in the UEFA Europa League. Turan scored two goals in two minutes in a 3-1 win over

Espanyol

on 22 April 2012.

He won the 2012 Europa League with Atlético, providing an assist in the final against Athletic Bilbao, which ended 3-0. Turan won the 2012 UEFA Super Cup with Atlético at the end of August 2012, when Atlético defeated Chelsea FC 4-1 in the final, with Turan providing the assist to Falcao for the 3-0 lead.

He prematurely extended his contract with the Rojiblancos until 2017 in September 2013 and that included a clause for a transfer fee of €41 million.

FC Barcelona

At the beginning of the 2015/16 season, Turan transferred to FC Barcelona. Turan signed a five-year contract until 30 June 2020 on 7 July 2015 for a transfer fee of €34 million, with the possibility of an increase of €7 million depending on his performance.

FC Barcelona had an option to sell Turan back to Atlético Madrid for 90% of the transfer fee by 20 July. The intention was to protect the best interests of possible new club management, who would be elected on 18 July 2015.

Several days before the elections, the four presidential candidates already reached an agreement to keep Turan, and the option remained unused. Because of an imposed transfer ban in the 2015 summer transfer window, Turan - like his teammate Aleix Vidal - was not eligible to register and play until the start of the winter transfer window on 4 January 2016.

Therefore, he was not included in the squad that won the Club World Cup in Japan in December 2015. Ultimately, Turan debuted in an FC Barcelona shirt on 6 January 2016 in a 4-1 home win over Espanyol in the Copa del Rey round of 16 first leg. He made his league debut three days later in a 4-0 home win over Granada FC.

Return to Turkey

Having failed to make any appearances in the 2017/18 season, Turan eventually returned home on 13 January 2018 and joined

Istanbul Başakşehir

on loan until the end of his contract with FC Barcelona on 30 June 2020. The move enabled FC Barcelona to keep the option of selling Turan's transfer rights to another club while he was on loan.

Turan was sent off on matchday 32 for attacking an assistant referee and making threatening gestures towards the main referee and was suspended for 16 matches, plus fined the equivalent of €7600. Turan made 11 league appearances (7 from the start) until the end of the 2017/18 Süper Lig season, scoring 2 goals.

Turan made his first appearance of the season in the 2018/19 season following the end of his suspension on matchday 10. He went on to make 14 appearances (8 times as a starter) with no goals of his own.

This was followed by 9 more appearances in the first half of the 2019/20 season (2 times from the start) with no goals scored as well. In early January 2020, Başakşehir cancelled the loan. Nevertheless, Turan did not return to Barcelona, preferring to keep fit privately. On 30 June 2020, his contract expired formally.

Return to Galatasaray

For the 2020/21 season, Turan rejoined Galatasaray Istanbul and signed a one-year contract. Turan played his 200th Süper Lig match against Çaykur Rizespor on 19 March 2021. In the build-up to the 2021/22 season, his contract was renewed until the end of the season.
