Ponte Preta 

After previously representing Palmeiras, Sao Paulo, and Gremio, Royal joined

's youth program in 2014. He made his senior debut on 22 February 2017, replacing injured Artur in a 2–2 Campeonato Paulista away tie against Linense, after appearing as an unused replacement in some 2016 Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A matches. He made his debut start three days later, despite being cautioned and conceding a penalty, in a 1–0 home defeat against

Royal made his Serie A debut on November 5, 2017, in a 2–0 loss against Bahia, replacing an injured John Kleber. Despite his team's relegation, he made three league appearances throughout the campaign.

Emerson was promoted to the first team ahead of the 2018 season, and he quickly established himself as a regular starter for Macaca, appearing in 14 games during the 2018 Campeonato Paulista. On April 2, 2018, he scored his first professional goal against Mirassol in the final of the Campeonato Paulista do Interior.

Atletico Mineiro
