Let’s take a look at three of the best father-and-son duos in the history of the Beautiful Game.

The Legend and the Son - Johan Cryuff and Jordi Cryuff

Johan Cryuff is a legend and was a star at both Ajax and Barcelona,

winning the prestigious Ballon d'Or

three times. When he transferred from Ajax to the Spanish giant, he set a world record for transfer fees, and in his first season with the club in 1973, he helped them win their first La Liga title since 1960. On top of that, he was a great manager and guided Barcelona to their first-ever Champions League title.

Johan was loved by Barcelona fans, not only because of his play but also because he gave his son the Spanish name Jordi. The son also played at Ajax and Barcelona and while not the legend that his father was, he carved out a solid career. 1993 was his first season at Barca where he led the team in goals.

The Lampards – Frank and Frank Jr.

Frank Lampard Sr. was a solid player that is well known for his loyalty and longevity playing more than 500 matches for West Ham from 1967 to 1984. After he retired, he went on to be an assistant coach during a great spell for the Hammers working under legendary head coach Harry Redknapp.

Like his father, Frank Lampard Jr. began his career at West Ham but went to Chelsea after nearly 150 appearances and became one of the all-time greats for the Blues. He is currently the all-time leading goal scorer for Chelsea and is the only midfielder who has scored at least 150 goals in the EPL. After his playing career, he has become a manager and has been at the helm of two EPL clubs in Chelsea and Everton.

The AC Milan Connection – The Maldinis

While Cesare Maldini did not begin his career at AC Milan, he spent 12 seasons there where he helped the club win a European Cup as well as four Serie A titles. The team won another European Cup in 1974 where the elder Maldini was the manager.

Paolo Maldini spent all of his 25 years in professional football at AC Milan where he is a legend. Many believe he is one of the best defenders of all time and in his 25 seasons at Milan, he amassed a whopping 26 trophies. He has 647 appearances for the Italian club and also won a World Cup. Maldini also won many individual honors including the iconic Pele naming him in 2002 the FIFA 100, which was a list of the top 100 greatest living players.  Even as a defender, he finished third in the voting for the Ballon d'Or twice.
