Golden Boy 2022 goes to Barcelona youngster Gavi

After claiming the Kopa Trophy, Gavi now bags the prestigious Golden Boy 2022 award as well.

Barcelona and Spain’s young midfield prodigy has won the prestigious Golden Boy award. Given by the Italian outlet Tuttosport, Golden Boy award is an award given to the most promising young player in Europe.

The outlet asks journalists of 10 other European countries to nominate maximum of 5 under 21 players and at the end the ones with the most points win the award. Every first place nominee gets 10 points, seven goes to second, five to third, 3 to fourth and 1 to the fifth-placed nominee.

Gavi is now the fourth Spanish player to receive the award and sets a new record for the Golden Boy winners from a single nation following the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Pedri and Isco, three of whom were from

Barcelona

who tie with United as the clubs with most Golden Boy winners.

Gavi

who played a big part in Barcelona’s last season’s campaign over 47 appearances and also was a regular in Spain’s national team squad, follows the likes of Sterling, Messi and Haaland as well as his partner in crime,

Pedri

, who won the award last year. This adds to Gavi’s personal collection, as the midfielder won the Kopa Trophy several weeks ago.
