Arthur Melo's agent defends him after a poor start at Liverpool

Arthur Melo's agent explains why he has made just one appearance for Liverpool since joining the English club.

Arthur who was not in Massimiliano Allegri’s plans joined Liverpool from Juventus on a loan deal on the last day of the summer transfer window.

Liverpool after failing to sign Aurelien Tchouameni or Jude Bellingham and injuries to their midfielders on the last days of the transfer window decided to sign a midfielder.

Arthur’s agent Federico Pastorello has explained why the Brazilian midfielder has only played 15 minutes for Jurgen Klopp’s side against Napoli in the Champions League.

He has told Calciomercato:

“Arthur played very little last year, then had an operation, planned, in June, thus missing part of the pre-season. He wasn’t in [coach Massimiliano] Allegri’s plans, so he didn’t train with the rest of the team, so it’s normal that arriving at the last day in this condition, from his point of view he needed extra work.

“Moreover, the difference between England and Italy in this aspect is huge, so there was this need to make up for the physical gap with his team-mates."

The 26-year-old Arthur played between 2018 to 2020 for Barcelona and then joined Juventus. He played in 65 matches for the Italian club and won the Coppa Italia in 2021.

Arthur also has played in 22 matches for Brazil and was part of the team that won the Copa America in 2019.
