Bukayo Saka voted England Player of the Year

Bukayo Saka, England and Arsenal star, has been selected England's Player of the Year for 2021-22.

Bukayo Saka

 beat out

Declan Rice

 and Harry Kane to win

England's Player of the Year

 award.

With 11 goals and seven assists for

Arsenal

in the Premier League last season and starting every game, Saka has established himself as one of the most intriguing English talents.

The 21-year-old has earned nine appearances with the England group since last September thanks to his strong play for his club side, where he has scored three goals and added two assists. As a result of his great play, he has been honored as the national team's Most Valuable Player for the current season.

The winger received the most votes from England supporters, allowing him to triumph over Rice and Kane, who came in second and third in the voting. To his surprise, the press conference at which he was awarded his prize turned out to be a Q&A with a local youth grassroots team, not the usual sort of thing one would expect to see at a press event.

"No way. I did not expect this, honestly, so yeah, I'm honoured. It's really nice. " I'm so happy. I can't put into words how happy I am. It's really nice to be awarded this trophy."

Saka has been the youngest player to win the award since 2003. He is also the first player from Arsenal to win it. After a few months, he was also named his club's Player of the Season for the second year. Last year, it was

Kalvin Phillips

, and Wayne Rooney won it four times.
