Spanish women's football to begin after deal ends referees' strike

The referees' strike, which was organized for the purpose of professionalization, has resulted and the Spanish women's league will start on Saturday.

After the agreement reached between the Spanish Football Association (REFF) and the Professional Women's Football League (LPFF), and with the end of the referees' strike, the Women's Football League will resume.

According to the schedule, the first week of the Primera Division Feminina was supposed to be held last week, but the disagreement between LPFF and REFF caused the referees of the league to go on strike and refuse to participate in the matches. They released a statement announcing that they would not officiate any matches in the league and hence, the first week's games were postponed. However, after negotiations between the two parties, the referees' strike has ended and the Spanish Women's Football League will continue to operate.

REFF's statement reads:

"There have been a succession of conversations between the CSD [the National Sports Council] and the RFEF that have borne fruit in a historic agreement for the professionalisation of the refereeing establishment in women's football.

"CSD and RFEF reinforce their commitment to women's football through the consolidation of some budget items that have resulted in a pioneering agreement that will allow the start of the First Division of Women's Football."

Barcelona

, who won the league last season with winning all 30 of their matches. were supposed to face Levante Las Palmas, but their match was postponed. On Saturday, the Blaugrana will play against Granadilla Tenerife.
