Inter's Simone Inzaghi predicts a stratospheric Serie A season

The 46-year-old took over for Antonio Conte in 2021 and did well in his first season in charge of the Nerazzurri and led Inter to wins in the Supercoppa Italiana and the Coppa Italia. Being awarded a new contract until 2024, Inzaghi discussed the difficult fight for the Scudetto next season

Losing the Serie A title to their arch-rivals, Milan for only two points last season, Inzaghi still led

Inter

to both a Coppa Italia and a Supercoppa Italiana. Being asked if he's looking for revenge on their arch-rivals ahead of the next Serie A season, Inzaghi told

DAZN

: “

I wouldn’t say that, I’d have to do great work to repeat the season we had. We did very, very well, we played beautiful football for a long part of the season, so I’m very satisfied.

“It would have been a stratospheric year with the Scudetto, which we missed out on by two points. We’ll try to win it this year knowing that we have rivals who’ll want to do the same and who have improved. We’ve been working since July 6 with that goal in mind.

Adding on the possible gap to

Milan

and how he views the two teams, Inzaghi said:

“We saw last year, we met four times. Once we won, once they won and then there were two draws.

“In the cups we did better, they did great in the league because they really did something extraordinary.”

On the Nerazzurri’s transfer businesses this summer, the Italian coach said:

“Last year after the various sales there was no talk about Inter, then we did so well in three or four months, playing so well that everyone pointed to us as the favorites.

“There are so many teams that have spent much more than Inter that will have the goal of winning.”

Speaking about Inter’s president,

Steven Zhang

, Inzaghi added: “Does he gives us that extra push? That definitely, having close ownership and management is enormously pleasing because they support us every day, never letting us lack anything.”
