has said why his move from
Tottenhamto Ajax is a step up. He was at Tottenham for two years. The Dutch player finally made his long-awaited move back to his home country on Friday. He hadn't been able to get a spot in the starting lineup under
Jose Mourinho
or
Antonio Conte
.
He told Ajax's official website, "It took a while and there was a lot of back and forth, but here we are." "It's been going on for about a year and a half. At one point, I started to play less at Tottenham, and then
Ajax
showed up a few times. It almost happened then, but it didn't, for one reason or another. "Now, at last, it's happened."
When asked what he thought about Ajax's interest, he said, "I was surprised. I really didn't see it coming. "But, yeah, I wasn't on the team, and of course you just want to play. So, it would be nice to go back to Ajax if you can. Both in the league and in the Champions League, they always do well. So for me, it's a step up."
Bergwijn had a few wins with Spurs, but they were few and far between. He scored on his debut against
Manchester Cityand scored two important goals in a 3-2 win at Leicester last season, but he only scored eight goals in 83 games, which was a hard number to reach.
He has scored four goals for the Netherlands in 2022, though, and hopes to play a big part in the World Cup later this year.
