Liverpool is ready to break their transfer record for Darwin Nunez

Liverpool is getting closer to signing Darwin Nunez from Benfica for a club-record fee of about £85 million.

According to the English press,

Nunez

is on Jürgen Klopp’s transfer list this summer if Sadio Mane leaves the club to join Bayern Munich.

Benfica

has been told

Liverpool

they will sell Nunez if they receive about £85 million and the English club is prepared to pay this. This will break Liverpool’s transfer record which is £75 million when they signed Virgil van Dijk from Southampton in 2018.

The Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano also claims that Liverpool is willing to pay €80m plus €20m in add-ons to secure the striker. Romano says Liverpool wants more than £40m for Mane from Bayern Munich and Nunez is their top target for replacing him. The future of Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino is also in doubt as both have only 12 months on their contracts.

The Uruguayan striker in recent weeks has been strongly linked with Manchester United but these reports claim that he wants to play in the Champions League and United is not willing to pay the asking fee.

The 22-year-old Nunez scored home and away against Liverpool in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. He scored 34 goals in 41 appearances for the Portuguese club last season.
