West Ham investigate reports of alleged attack on German commentators

West Ham has initiated an investigation into reports that two German commentators were assaulted by supporters inside the London Stadium.

West Ham

is looking into claims that two German commentators were assaulted by fans during the first leg of the

Europa League semi-final

against

Eintracht Frankfurt

on Thursday. ARD commentators had their headsets torn off and were attacked multiple times during the match, according to German news site Bild.

The alleged incident occurred after

Michail Antonio

scored in the 21st minute to cancel out Ansgar Knauff's early opening at the London Stadium. "The club is aware of the incident and will be attempting to identify the offender," West Ham said in a statement on Friday.

"Anyone recognized will have their information forwarded to the authorities in accordance with our zero-tolerance policy. They will be barred from entering London Stadium and traveling with the club for an indefinite period." This type of behavior has no place in our society."

"We are doing okay," German journalist Philipp Hofmeister, who is said to have been targeted, tweeted after the match. To all West Ham fans who love football and respect their opponents, my best wishes."

Due to

Daichi Kamada

's 54th-minute tap-in, Frankfurt went on to win the game 2-1. The return leg is scheduled for next Thursday at Deutsche Bank Park.
