My role alongside Ronaldo wasn’t a deputy - Benzema

The France international emphasized that the only memories he has from his time with the Portuguese are good ones from when they were in the Spanish capital.

Real Madrid

player

Karim Benzema

has emphasized that during his time with

Cristiano Ronaldo

, he did not have his deputy role.

Madrid have enjoyed a successful decade with the help of the two. However, many believed that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner was the only star, while Benzema was second in command.

The duo have contributed to many trophies. Notwithstanding Ronaldo meeting the target more than the Frenchman, Benzema dismissed claims that he had a more superior role.

Benzema told

France Football

:

"It (the role Benzema played alongside Ronaldo) wasn't a deputy, it wasn't that. I didn't say to myself: 'Ah, I have to give him the ball all the time'. I was playing well but he was scoring twice [each game]. It's the truth, you can't do anything about it.

"Since he left for Juve, I took over in my own way and it's going well. I don't play like Cristiano Ronaldo, and he doesn't play like Karim Benzema.

"He didn't stop me from being the best version of myself. We won a lot of games, I had a lot of fun. To think like that is to be too individual. I won it all with him. The Champions League, many championships, we scored I don't know how many goals, we were part of the magic trio with [Gareth] Bale, there were a lot of very good moments and I don't see any bad ones."

Both players joined Real Madrid in 2009 and have found the back of the net 752 times collectively, although the latter was more in Spain.

The ex-

Juventus

star scored a staggering 450 goals in 438 games, whereas Benzema met the target 302 times up to now, in 585 appearances.

They both helped their side win the Champions League four times, as well as winning La Liga, the Spanish Cup and the Spanish Super Cup twice each. They won the UEFA Super and FIFA Club World Cup three times each as well.

Benzema, however, has won one more

La Liga

, Spanish Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

The France international has been running on a rich vein of form and is a key player in Real Madrid’s goal to win the title. He has scored 23 goals in 26 games for his side.

After Ronaldo left the club, his numbers have become better as he is considered as an experienced leader in the dressing room.

Meanwhile, the Portugal international has become Manchester United’s top scorer since he left Juventus. He has netted 14 times in 21 matches. He also admitted that he is not considering hanging up his boots any time soon.
