Granit Xhaka to sign new four-year deal at Arsenal

The Swiss midfielder has agreed to a new contract that runs until 2025.

Granit Xhaka was on the verge of completing a

move

away from Arsenal last month. However, the Swiss midfielder’s potential transfer to AS Roma fell through as the two clubs failed to reach an agreement.

According to

football.london

, Granit Xhaka has signed a new four-year deal at the Emirates Stadium. Edu and Mikel Arteta have decided to keep Xhaka as they consider him as an integral part of the Gunners’ midfield.

Mikel Arteta praised Xhaka after a pre-season friendly last month, insisting the 28-year-old is not going to leave the club.

"Granit is going to stay with us. He's a player that we rate and value so much, he's a key member of our squad,"

said the Spaniard.

"He's trained two days. He wanted to play today and I think it's very clear commitment from his side that he wants to be here."

The deal means Arsenal are unlikely to continue their search for a new central midfielder. Instead, they will intensify their efforts to sign a backup goalkeeper and a new creative midfielder in the current transfer window. The Gunners are heavily linked with a summer move for Real Madrid’s

Martin Odegaard

, who spent the last season on loan at the Emirates.
