America hit with a three-point penalty for naming an ineligible player

Club America vanquished Atlas 2-0, but the results have then been changed following an administrative mistake that was detected.

After having an ineligible player on the bench in the clash against

Atlas

on Saturday,

Club America

have received a three-point penalty.

Federico Vinas

, who was not registered by the Mexican giants, was present on the bench. Despite not playing in the match, Liga MX decided to award Atlas a 3-0 forfeit. Santiago Solari's side are asking for a reversal in the decision and have publicly apologized for the ‘unacceptable’ mistake they made. However, they believed the penalty was “disproportionate”.

Club America were sitting top of the table before the decision saw them third. Although their position is still in the top four.

They have 10 fixtures in hand and will face Pachuca on Saturday.
