Tottenham January Transfer Window of 2022: Live Updates

Tottenham is trying hard to get back to the top Premier League teams. Assigning an ambitious manager like Conte is a sign of Tottenham's efforts. Let’s find out more about Tottenham’s January 2022 transfers.

Tottenham started the 2021-22 season with

Nuno Espirito

. The Portuguese manager’s spell with Wolverhampton was great. Leading the club back to the Premier League after six years of absence is just one of the remarkable efforts of Nuno in four years with the Wolves. At Spurs, he only lasted four months and

Antonio Conte

took his place.

Since Fabio Paratici has started his executive role at Tottenham, the club is running in an Italian-like style. Hiring one of the most successful Italian managers for Spurs was an ambitious decision and now the club has to adapt with “Don Antonio”. Under Espirito, Tottenham was arranged in a 4-2-3-1 formation which requires vastly different elements compared with Conte’s trademark 3-5-2.

It is likely for the London based club to buy some players from Serie A because of Partici's connections. Conte has proved his interest in the transfers between Serie A and Premier League on many occasions. Spurs still have the chance to finish fourth and qualify for the Champions League.

Tottenham’s January 2022 transfers

.

Rodrigo Bentancur

Rodrigo Bentancur

left Juventus for Tottenham Hotspur as the club’s first signing in the

January transfer window of 2022

. The initial fee is reported to be €19 million, with a chance to rise to €25 million. His former club before Juventus was

Boca Juniors

and they will receive 30 percent from this transfer. Tottenham's Italian executive, Fabio Paratici played a big role in this transfer. Paratici used to be the football director of Juventus. He lately hired Antonio Conte as Nuno Espirito's replacement. Conte and Paratici together can change Tottenham’s future in this transfer window.

Bentancur is a product of the Boca Juniors youth academy system. The 24 years old midfielder left Argentina after three seasons, 51 league appearances, and a single goal. On July 1, 2017, the Uruguayan international player joined Joined in a transfer worth €21 million and his contract with Juventus was until the end of 2022. Bentancur won 7 major trophies at Turin including three consecutive Serie A championships. He made a total of 181 appearances for Juventus and scored 3 goals.

Tottenham is the third club of his professional career. Bentancur has represented Uruguay national team since 2017. In a total of 47 national caps, he has scored one goal for Uruguay. Oscar Tabarez called him up for the 2018 World Cup Qualifiers. He later was included in the World Cup's last 23 man squad.

Dejan Kulusevski

It’s a busy day for Tottenham. Another deal with the Juventus former sporting director and former head coach in the

Tottenham January transfer window of 2022

. The 21 year old right winger or midfielder has joined Tottenham on a one year and a half loan with an obligation to buy. The loan fee is €10 million for one year and a half, and the fee for buy obligation is €35 million under certain conditions like Champions League qualification and appearances.

Kulusevski

was loaned to Parma for the 2019-2020 season, because he couldn't get regular playtime in his first senior club, Atalanta. In January 2020, Kulusefski joined Juventus on a year and a half deal for €35 million, which could rise to €44 million with variables. Paratici made it happen in Juventus first, but Kulusevski was sent back on loan to Parma for the second half of the season and was awarded Serie A Best Young Player Of The Season for his outstanding performance.

Fabio Paratici oversaw the signings of both Kulusevski from Atalanta in January 2020 and Bentancur from Boca Juniors in 2017 during his time at Juventus. Tottenham wanted

Luis Diaz

at first, but the transfer was hijacked by Liverpool. Instead, the Sweden international joined the Premier League side.

Bryan Gil

After two signings in one day, here’s Tottenham's first departure.

Bryan Gil

will be on loan to Valencia until the end of the season. There isn’t any buy option clause in his contract with the Spanish club.

The 21 year old winger started his senior career in Sevilla B in 2018, but he was in the club's youth system from 2012. From 2019 to 2021, he was included in the first squad and made 14 appearances. During this period, he had two loan spells in Leganes and Eibar. Gil signed a contract with Tottenham in an exchange deal with

Erik Lamela

and the initial fee was 21.6 million pounds. He only had nine appearances in Premier League, and 20 in all the competitions.

After half of a season in the premier league, Antonio Conte decided it’s best for him to go back to Spain for the rest of the seasons. He also didn’t get much playtime under Nuno Spirito Santo, despite he was known as one of the Spanish brightest talents. It was expected that he would join another premier league club to gain experience. He only had one assist for Tottenham and didn’t score any goals. With the signing of Kulusevsky, it was almost certain that he is not going to play under the new Italian manager.

Dele Alli

Dele Alli

is the second departure in the

January transfer window of 2022

. Everton signed Dele Alli for their new manager

Frank Lampard

. The English manager replaced

Rafa Benitez

who was sacked while Everton was singing Anwar El Ghazi from Aston Villa. Dele Alli is the second arrival for the Toffees since Super Frank took the role. Everton loaned Donny van de Beek on the last day of January and Dele is another new midfielder they have.

It was likey for Dele to leave Spurs. It was hard to match him with Antonio Conte’s requirements. The Italian manager has refreshed the midfielders to the version he desired. Dele has played mainly as an attacking midfielder throughout his career. Jose Mourinho believed that he is for a forward player than a midfielder. The 25 years old scored 18 goals in the 2016-17 Premier League season under

Mauricio Pochettino

. Playing behind Harry Kane brought the best out of him. In a total of 181 Premier League caps he has scored 51 goals for the Spurs.

The deal between Tottenham and Everton is entirely performance-based. The transfer is initially free but after 20 appearances, a 12 million euro transfer fee would be activated. Dele’s transfer fee has the potential to rise to 40 million under special circumstances.

Tanguy Ndombele

Tottenham midfielder

Tanguy Ndombele

returned to Lyon on loan for the rest of the season. The French side has the option to buy Ndombele for €65 million. The French midfielder signed for Tottenham in a  €62 million deal in July 2019. When

Jose Mourinho

became Tottenham's manager at first he had some issues with Ndombele and criticized his performance but later in the second season of the Special One at Tottenham became a crucial player.

Ndombele made 33 caps in 2020-21 Premier League but in the current season has started only 6 league matches. The 25 years old started his senior career at Ligue 2 with Amiens. Joining Lyon in 2017 was a breakthrough for Ndombele. He made 96 appearances in two years of playing for Lyon. It is more than his 91 appearances for Spurs in two and a half years.

Followed by the blockbuster transfer of Bruno Guimaraes from Lyon to Newcastle, Ndombele can be a perfect replacement. His diverse skills combined with quick runs have made him a versatile midfielder. Ndombele has 7 national caps since 2018 but he has not been called up since March 2021. His return to France in Tottenham's January transfer window of 2022 may open up his chances to be called for the national team.

Giovani Lo Celso

Giovani Lo Celso

joined La Liga club, Villareal, on loan until 30 June 2022. The Tottenham midfielder has been out of favor this season, making only 9 appearances in 2021-22 Premier League. Spurs have signed Rodrigo Bentancur from Juventus in Tottenham January transfer window of 2022, which means Lo Celso has almost no chance to play for Antonio Conte. The Argentine returns to La Liga after 3 years since joining Tottenham from Real Betis.

Lo Celso is a technical midfielder with vision and an eye for a goal. The 25 years old started his career at his hometown club Rosario Central. He later signed with Paris Saint-Germain and in two seasons won 6 French major trophies including the 2017-18 Ligue 1 championship. In August 2019 Lo Celso signed for Tottenham on a season-long loan with an option to buy. In January 2020 Spurs made his deal permanent followed by

Christian Eriksen

’s move to Inter.

Lo Celso caped in 84 games for Tottenham and scored 8 goals and delivered 6 assists. He has 38 national caps for Argentina and won the 2021 Copa America. He is now set to play under former Arsenal manager

Unai Emery

. The Spanish side has the option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season.
