Bundesliga clubs With Biggest Market Value Increase In 2021

In 2021 some stars left Bundesliga but the talents they produce seem endless. Let’s find out which are the Bundesliga clubs with biggest market value increase in 2021.

2021 was a typical year for German football. Bayern Munich won the Bundesliga title and Borussia Dortmund won the DFB-Pokal.

has become one of the most wanted players in the world and there’s a chance of his transfer to an even bigger club in the future. Dortmund’s traditional rival, Schalke relegated in 2021 and there is not going to be River derby in the 2021-22 Bundesliga.

There are 10 Bundesliga teams whose value has increased. Among the decreased teams there are well-known clubs like Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, and RB Leipzig. The biggest decrease in market value was for Hertha Berlin. Their market value has been decreased by €130 million in 2021. Next to Hertha, there’s Borussia Monchengladbach. The market value of Gladbach has decreased by €70, while Bayern and Leipzig have both lost around €50 million in market value.

Like most of the European leagues, the biggest and most successful clubs in Bundesliga have had economic problems due to the pandemic and lockdown.

Arminia Bielefeld - €45.15m to €52.75m

After a glorious championship in 2. Bundesliga with a ten point margin from VFB Stuttgart in the second place, Arminia Bielefeld had a rough start in German football's top flight. Until the January transfer window of 2021, they lost nine matches in 13 weeks of Bundesliga and were in 16th place. Their bad performance continued after the transfer window until Uwe Neuhaus was sacked at the beginning of March.

Frank Kramer became their new head coach, after three years of being in the coaching team of the German national team. In twelve games until the end of the season, they only lost in three matches and finished the season in 15th place with 35 points. Their goalkeeper

, who is now their second most valuable player, was third in holding clean sheets in Bundesliga with 11, after Leipzig and Wolfsburg’s keepers. He had a rise in his market value by about 3.5 million euros.

Amos Pieper is now their most valuable player with a market value of seven million euros, which has almost doubled since January 2021.

Eintracht Frankfurt - €186.20m to €200.45m

Adi Hutter had a wonderful run with Eintracht and in the previous season finished fifth in the league table, qualifying for the Europa League group stage. Until January 2021, they were in the middle of the table.

Luka Jovic

joined from Real Madrid on loan in the winter transfer window. Andrea Silva who came from Milan for a fee of 9 million euros in September 2020, scored 28 goals and became the club’s top scorer as well as Bundesliga 2020-21 second top scorer after Robert Lewandowski with 41.

Filip Kostić

and Daichi Kamada with 14 and 12 assists were after

in the Bundesliga top assists of the season.

The season ends for Eintracht with sixteen wins and twelve draws. In the summer transfer window of 2021, Jens Petter Hauge joined on loan from AC Milan. Rafael Borré from River Plate signed a contract with the club for a free transfer. The center forward has a market value of 17 million euros and in 17 appearances he has scored four goals and provided four assists. 

Adi Hutter left the club at the end of the summer and Oliver Glasner from Wolfsburg became their new head coach. The club’s attacking midfielder, Daichi Kamada has had an increase of nine million euros in his market value. and Leandro Barreiro are their second and third most valuable players at the club, which they also had a market value rise of 7.5 and 3.5 million euros, respectively.

1.FC Union Berlin - €60.60m to €78.30m

Union Berlin has been on the rise since 2018. In the 2018-19 season, they finished with 57 points, and only missed 2nd place on goal differential. They won the promotion playoffs against VfB Stuttgart and got their ticket to the top flight. In the 2019-20 season, they finished in the middle of the table with twelve wins and five draws.

In the previous season, they even got further and finished seventh, qualifying for the Europa Conference league play-off round. The club’s head coach Urs Fischer, who secured the promotion to Bundesliga’s top flight in his first season, has had a win rate of 39.57 percent. is their most valuable player who plays at center back. In the current season, after 17 matches, they are in 7th place on the Bundesliga table with seven wins and six draws. 

VfL Bochum - €18.23m to €38.10m

This is the first season Bochum is back in Bundesliga. After a month from the start of the 2019-20 season, the former Bochum midfielder, Thomas Reis, became their new head coach in September 2019. Before him, they didn’t win even once in 2. Bundesliga. Bochum ended the season in 8th place with 11 wins and 13 draws. 

Bochum started 2020-21 well and until January, they became fourth in the league table. They didn’t have any notable transfers in January. SC Freiburg - €111.70m to €132.15m

As one of the Bundesliga clubs with biggest market value increase in 2021, Freiburg ended last season in 10th place with twelve wins and nine draws. They had quiet transfer windows in 2021, with only Maximilian Eggestein, who joined from Werder Bremen for a fee of five million euros.

Nico Schlotterbeck

came back from a loan spell at Union Berlin. Due to his great performance in Union, his market value has more than tripled in a year.

In the current season, they are dominating Bundesliga, being in third place after Bayern Munich and Dortmund. In 17 matches, Freiburg lost only four games and had five draws. VfL Wolfsburg - €218.95m to €286.03m

Wolfsburg is having a hard time this season. They finished 4th in 2020-21 with 61 points after Dortmund and qualified for Champions League. But their head coach, Olivier Glasner, who managed to qualify for Europa League in his first season, departed to join Eintracht Frankfurt. In summer 2021, Wolfsburg announced that the former Bayern Munich midfielder, Mark van Bommel will be the new head coach for the 2021-22 season. 

Sebastiaan Bornauw

, the former Koln center back, joined the club with a transfer fee of 13.5 million euros. Another notable signing in the summer was Luca Waldschmidt from Benfica with a 12 million euros transfer fee. Wolfsburg wasn’t successful in pre season matches but started the 2021-22 season with four wins. But until 23 October they didn’t win once. Van Bommel was sacked and the former Werder Bremen head coach, Florian Kohfeldt was hired to replace him.

Since then Wolfsburg has participated in eight games, winning only two, and getting a point out of a draw against Arminia Bielefeld.
