Best Juventus Players of All Time

Let’s take a look at some of the best Juventus players of all time and what they achieved with the club.

Juventus is the most successful football team in Italy. They have won tons of trophies and championships, such as two Champions Leagues, 13 Coppa Italias, and 36 Italian League titles. Only the top athletes could make a club of this caliber successful.

We also decided it would be logical to rank the finest players in Juventus Football Club's history because so many top sportsmen have worn the Bianconeri's jersey throughout the years.

Many of the Juventus players received major individual awards like the Ballon d'Or and Golden Boot, making it very challenging to separate them. Instead, we had to think about the impact these players' outstanding performances as individuals and as members of the squad had on the team as a whole. In a sense, these players are some of the greatest Juventus legends.

Best Juventus Players ever

We’re starting our list with the Czech legend and Ballon d’Or winner, Pavel Nedved, and the quality of best Juventus players ever only goes up from there. So let’s find out below.

10. Pavel Nedved

Possibly the best Czech player ever, Nedved spent 8 years at Juventus and his career at the Old Lady was divided into 2 distinct periods. The first was the very successful years, both for him and the club, and the second part followed after the Calciopoli scandal in 2006, in which Juventus, despite being champions, were demoted to Serie B because of being found guilty of fixing matches.

Although he was a great player for Juve before Calciopoli, the solidarity that he showed the club by staying with them even in Serie B is one of the reasons Juve fans love him so much and why he is one of the best Juventus players of all time. Nedved, who at the time was considered to be one of the best players in the world and had won the Ballon d’Or in 2003, could’ve gone to any top club in the world, but he stayed with Juve and helped them back to Serie A one year later.

Pavel Nedved, who played for clubs like Sparta Prague and Lazio, will always be known for his time at Juventus, where he represented the Old Lady in 327 matches and managed to score 65 goals.

He won 4 Serie A titles, 2 of which were revoked after Calciopoli and he also made it into the final of the Champions League in the 2002-03 season, in which they lost to Milan on penalties. Despite the loss, for his part in helping Juve reach that final as well as winning the Serie A in the same season, he was awarded the Ballon d’Or and became one of the greatest players in the history of Juventus.

9. Giampiero Boniperti

Boniperti gave it all for Juventus, having spent the entirety of his 15-year career at Juve. That’s why he is called ‘Mr. Juventus’.. He still holds an honorary title in the club and he is undoubtedly one of the most

legendary Juventus players ever

, but first let’s take a look at his career as a player.

Boniperti started his career at Juventus in the 1946-47 season. Playing as a center forward with clinical finishing ability, he started right away which was enough for the Juventus manager at the time to trust him as his main striker, he repaid his trust by scoring 27 goals and winning the Serie A Golden Boot. Boniperti would go on to win 2 scudetti in 1950 and 1952 and later became the captain of the club in 1954. He also played for Italy national team in the 1950 and 1954 World Cup (captaining the team in the latter tournament) and also the 1952 Olympics.

With the arrival of Omar Sivori and John Charles at the club, Boniperti formed a powerful trio with them, as he had been transitioned to a winger role by then and led Juve to several titles. The Magic Trio helped Juventus win 3 scudetti and 2 Coppa Italia with the last league title coming in 1960-61 season, which would be Boniperti’s last season as a footballer. He retired from football with style as one of the best Juventus players of all time and becoming Juventus’ highest goal scorer, with 182 goals in all competitions, a record which he held for nearly 40 years.

8. Giorgio Chiellini

Chiellini is another player who stayed with Juve during the tough times that followed the Calciopoli, and he is also one of the longest-serving players in the history of the Old Lady.

Chiellini spent most of his career playing for Juventus. Having arrived at the club from Fiorentina in 2005. He immediately became a regular under the management of Capello in 2005-06 season and won his first scudetto (which was later revoked and given to Inter). He stayed with Juve and it was in Serie B that he cemented his place as Juventus’ regular defender.

He tasted his first real domestic success in 2011, where he was an integral part in Juventus winning the Serie A again. He has won an incredible amount of 9 scudetti with Juve. His partnership with Barzagli and Bonucci backed by Buffon in the goal made Juventus’ backline the most important factor in Juventus’ 9-year consecutive Serie A wins.

Chiellini helped Juventus reach 2 Champions League finals in 2014-15 and 2016-17 seasons, both of which they lost. Chiellini is one of the most decorated players on this list, a general in defense who will be remembered for decades to come. He finally left the club after 17 years at the end of the 2021/22 season.

7. Paolo Rossi

Juventus bought him back as a player and he won the 1981-82 Serie A with them. Despite barely playing in the league, he was selected for the Italian squad of 1982 World Cup and he repaid their trust in him as he scored 3 against Brazil in the quarter-finals, 2 against Poland in the semi-final and 1 against Germany in the final.

He won the World Cup Golden Boot with 6 goals. His exploits at the

World Cup

were reason enough for him to win both the Ballon d’Or and the World Player of the Year award in 1982.

In his first full season after the World Cup he helped Juventus win the Coppa Italia and reach European Cup final (now known as the Champions League) by becoming top goal scorer in both competitions.

His following season was noticeably more successful as he won his 2nd Serie A title, by scoring 13 goals, followed by European Cup Winner’s Cup and Supercup victories. In his last season at Juventus he finally won the European Cup and thus marked his name in the club’s history as one of the best Juventus players of all time.

6. Zinedine Zidane

Zinedine Zidane doesn’t need any introduction, as he is considered by many to be the greatest ever footballer. He is mostly associated with

Real Madrid

since he was really successful with them and he finished his career there. He is also one of their greatest ever coaches who led them to 3 back to back Champions League titles.

Before all that it was at Juve that Zidane made a name for himself and won practically everything that a footballer can. After impressing at Bordeaux in 1996, he ended up joining the Bianconeri. He won consecutive Serie A titles in his first two seasons at the club. They also reached the Champions League final on both seasons but they ended up losing to Dortmund and Real Madrid.

After his second season at Juventus, Zidane took part in the 1998 World Cup where his home country France were hosting the tournament. He played a huge part in helping France win the World Cup for the first time ever and as a result he won the Ballon d’Or and the FIFA World Player of the Year Award in 1998. As if this was not enough to make him one of

the best Juventus players of all time

he went and won the FIFA World Player of the Year Award again in the 2000 where this time he helped France win the Euro 2000 against Italy in the final.

Although he managed to win the Champions League at Real Madrid, it can be argued that Zidane’s best years were spent at Juventus. Juve helped him in his journey to become one of the greatest ever, by bringing him to the forefront of European football and he helped them win several titles, including 2 scudetti. That’s why he will always be remembered as one of Juventus legends of all time.

5. Dino Zoff

Zoff is considered by many to be one of the greatest goalkeepers in football history. For many years some of the greatest Italian goalkeepers stood in his shadow of greatness and rightfully so as he proved it time and again, both for club and country, how integral he was to their success. He is truly one of

Juventus best footballers of all time

but interestingly enough there is one other goalkeeper above him in this list!

By the time Zoff moved to Juventus he was already 31 and a veteran of the game, but as most players’ gifts deteriorate with age Zoff only got better to the point that he won the World Cup and Serie A in 1982, when he was 40. In total he won 6 Serie A titles with Juventus and 2 Coppa Italia, he also did reach two Champions League finals with the club but lost on both occasions. Although he did win the European Cup (now known as Europa League) with Juventus.

Zoff was never a flashy goalkeeper, as he always favored caution and consistency over a standout save or performance. He was really good at reading the opposition’s attack patterns and he used this to organize his back-line. Perhaps he did this best in the 1982 World Cup where Italy won the World Cup with great defensive performances, led by Zoff. His style of goalkeeping has influenced many modern goalkeepers, including Juventus’ own Gigi Buffon, and it has made him one of the legends of the game as well as one of

the greatest players in the history of Juventus

.

4. Gaetano Scirea

Gaetano Scirea has won everything a footballer can and that isn’t hyperbole. He is widely considered to be one of the greatest defenders of all time and he is definitely one of Juventus legends of all time, some would even go as far as calling him the best Juventus player ever but let’s see how he earned all of those titles. Scirea who was of Sicilian descent started his career in the Atalanta youth academy at age 15, he then was promoted to the first team 2 years later, where he became a regular until Juventus came asking for his signature.

After 2 seasons at Atalanta, Scirea signed for Juventus aged only 19, and would go on to play for them until he retired from football 15 years later. Scirea formed a strong partnership at the back with Claudio Gentile and Antonio Cabrini, they, alongside Dino Zoff as the goalkeeper, made Juventus’ defense impregnable and were one of the pillars of Juve’s success in that era, especially on the European stage.

Scirea won 7 Serie A titles, 2 Italian Cups, 1 UEFA Cup, 1 Cup Winners' Cup, 1 Champions League, 1 UEFA Super Cup, and 1 Intercontinental Cup with Juventus, being one of only 9 players to have won everything at the club level that a European player can, in addition to that he won the 1982 World Cup with Italy.

He was not only a part of the Juventus that won all those trophies, but rather he was the pillar and a general of that team and that’s why he is a legend among Bianconeri fans. he has even stands named after him, both in Juve’s current stadium and the former delle Alpi stadium. He sadly passed away at the age of 36, a year after he retired from football, but he will forever be one of the best Juventus players of all time.

3. Gianluigi Buffon

Considered by many to be the greatest goalkeeper of all time, Gigi Buffon is the pinnacle of career longevity in the very top of footballing pyramid. He seems to have found the fountain of youth because he is still playing today and is as good as any goalkeeper half his age. This career longevity has allowed him to break many records, including the most amount of clean sheets by a goalkeeper with over 500 number of clean sheets.

It would take an entire article to recite all of Buffon’s individual achievements, suffice it to say that he has surpassed what was thought possible for a player to do. But before he became a legend he is today, he started his career at youth levels of Parma, which was then followed by his first professional appearance just before he turned 18. He won the Coppa Italia and UEFA Cup with

Parma

, before joining Juventus in 2001 for €52 million, which was a then record transfer fee for a goalkeeper.

Buffon played for Juve for 17 consecutive seasons before joining

PSG

in 2018-19 season for a single year after which he rejoined Juventus. He won 12 Serie A titles with Juventus, 2 of which were revoked because of Calciopoli but even with 10 Serie A titles, there are no players who have won as many scudetto as him. He also won 4 Coppa Italia titles with the Bianconeri and appeared in 3 Champions League finals, all of which he lost.

Nicknamed Superman, Buffon was extremely agile and good in the air in his prime. He is extremely good in organizing the back-line and like another one of best Juventus players of all time, Dino Zoff, he is reliable in goal. And just like Zoff, he was also a pillar in Italy’s national team, helping them in the 2006 World Cup win, where he recorded 5 clean sheets in the tournament.

He left the Old Lady once again in 2021 to return his boyhood club, Parma. Buffon will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the best players of all time, as well as one of legendary Juventus players ever.

2. Michel Platini

With Juventus, Platini won 2 Serie A,1 Coppa Italia, and 1 European Cup Winners' Cup, but his crowning achievements came in the Champions League, where he appeared twice in the final, both with Juve, and helped Juventus win their first Champions League trophy in 1984-85 against Liverpool.

Platini scored the only goal of the match from a penalty kick, which was given suspiciously. Although his later career after retirement may have tarnished his name, there is no denying that he will forever be one of the greatest French players as well as one of the best Juventus players of all time.

1. Alessandro Del Piero

The number 1 spot on our list of best Juventus players of all time goes out to Alessandro Del Piero. He is Juventus’ all-time top goal-scorer (290 goals) as well as the player with the most number of appearances (705) for the club. But his time at Juventus couldn’t be expressed by numbers only because he meant so much more than that for Juventus fans and even football fans in general.

He started playing for Padova when he was a teenager, and after a couple of seasons, Juventus took a risk and brought him to Turin. He hit the ground running and soon became a regular player. He often played as a supportive striker, a role some called “9 and a half” where he assisted goals as well as scoring them. He was particularly good at taking free kicks and penalties, having scored 106 goals from set-pieces.

He won 6 Serie A titles along with 1 Coppa Italia and, more importantly, 1 Champions League title with Juventus. Alongside, Ravanelli, Vialli and Baggio, Del Piero formed a strong Juventus team that won Serie A after 8 years in the 1994-95 season, and they went on to achieve a double by winning the Coppa Italia. He would later help them in their Champions League winning season in 1995-96 by scoring six times in the competition. He also played a huge part in Italy’s 2006 World Cup win over France.

Del Piero was one of those players who played for the badge instead of his own name. he spent 19 years at Juventus and captained the club for 11 years. Following the Calciopoli, he decided to stay with the club despite being in the prime of his career.

He led them back to Serie A and the tough years that followed after, until they won the Serie A again in 2011-12, after which he departed the club to finish his career abroad. He will forever be the best Juventus player of all time as well as one of the most beloved and greatest footballers ever.
