Spanish media reports reveal the travel of a Real Madrid legend to Riyadh with the aim of communicating with Al-Nassr Saudi Club, where he is supposed to be heading to take up the position of the sports director of the yellow club. According to what the Spanish network “Relievo” reported on Tuesday, Fernando Hierro, who was a former captain of the royal team, is in the Saudi capital to complete the final details of signing a contract that appoints him in the aforementioned position.
It has been confirmed that Hierro, 56 years old, has reached an agreement with Al-Nassr administration, and the official announcement of the contract is expected soon, which will not be much delayed, according to the Spanish network.
The network indicates that negotiations between the Saudi club and Hierro, who is currently working as a sports director for Chivas de Guadalajara in Mexico, started several weeks ago, as Al-Nassr seeks to appoint a strong personality in this position to succeed Marcelo Salazar.
Hierro is scheduled to take responsibility for the contracting file in Al-Nassr, which included prominent players such as Sadio Mane, Aymeric Laporte, and Marcelo Brozovic last summer, in addition to Cristiano Ronaldo in January 2023.
Hierro had previously worked as a sports director for the Spanish national team from November 2017 to July 2018, and participated in leading the Spanish team in the World Cup in Russia.
It is worth noting that Hierro is not the only Spanish sports director in the Saudi league, as Ramon Planes holds the same position in Al-Ittihad Jeddah, while Steve Calzada holds an executive presidency of Al-Hilal Club.
