At Stake: The Future of Xavi Hernandez and Barcelona

A press report reviews the crises and challenges facing Barcelona’s management, with confirmations on potential changes in the team and the fate of its coach, and potential scenarios related to contract renewals and player tactics.

According to a Spanish press report published on Monday, the future of Xavi Hernandez, the current coach of Barcelona, is under threat, despite his retreat in his decision and staying with the team after the end of the current season, where he announced his continuation with the Catalan club.

According to what the Spanish newspaper “AS” mentioned, the situation has changed within Barcelona’s management after the defeat that the team suffered against Girona with a score of 2-4, and its decline to the third position in the Spanish league standings.

The management members believe that occupying the third position at the end of the season will be considered a failure, and will necessitate making serious decisions regarding the team’s lineup and even the fate of the coach, according to what the newspaper mentioned.

Because of these developments, Barcelona’s management decided to postpone all decisions related to renewing players’ contracts or loaning them or selling them, until the position that the team will occupy at the end of the season becomes clear.

In addition, if Girona continues in the second position until the end of the season, Barcelona will be deprived of participating in the Spanish Super Cup next season.

According to what “AS” mentioned, Barcelona’s president, Joan Laporta, and the sports director, Deco, are ready to make strict decisions if the team fails to achieve the second position.

The newspaper indicates that Xavi’s departure will not be surprising to the management, as this matter has already been raised after the defeat in El Clásico, and it received great support from the members.

In addition, players such as Ronald Araujo, Frenkie de Jong, and Robert Lewandowski may be sold, due to their age and high salaries, and even Pedri may be offered for sale after the modest season he presented.

As for renewing Sergi Roberto’s contract, Barcelona’s management will postpone this decision to a later time, ignoring Xavi’s request to keep him.
