Gerrard Navigating Al-Ettifaq's Revival

As Steven Gerrard extends his contract, Al-Ettifaq faces a pivotal moment with upcoming signings and the departure of Henderson, aiming for a resurgence in the Saudi Pro League.

As per The Athletic, the former English footballer Steven Gerrard has reportedly agreed to extend his contract with the Saudi Pro League club Al-Ettifaq until 2027. Despite the team's recent poor performance, the board is supporting Gerrard and has committed to acquiring new players to improve their standing in the SPL. Gerrard, who joined Al-Ettifaq in July 2023 after leaving Aston Villa in October 2022, has faced challenges with the team's inconsistency, currently enduring an eight-match winless streak and holding the eighth position with 25 points from 19 matches.

The departure of midfielder Henderson is impending, further complicating matters for the team. However, with the SPL on a break due to the ongoing AFC Asian Cup, Gerrard has sufficient time to find a replacement for the experienced midfielder. It's noteworthy that before managing

, Gerrard achieved success with a three-year stint at Rangers, leading them to the Scottish Premiership title in the 2020-21 season. Despite initial reservations about the role in Saudi Arabia, Gerrard eventually embraced the opportunity.

While Henderson is reportedly undergoing a medical at Ajax in Amsterdam for a potential move, Gerrard remains in Dammam, strategizing a turnaround for Al-Ettifaq, who will resume SPL action on February 15 against Al-Khaleej.
