"I believe we can finish in the top four", says Liverpool forward Diogo Jota

Liverpool forward Diogo Jota believes they can finish in the Premier League's top four this season.

Liverpool

will face their rivals

Manchester United

at Anfield on Sunday. Jurgen Klopp’s side is six points behind the fourth-placed team, Tottenham, but they have two games in hand.

Diogo Jota

, who suffered a calf injury in October and missed the World Cup, recently returned to action and is ready to face Manchester United.

The Portugal international, who has not scored in the Premier League this season, believes Liverpool can secure Champions League qualification.

"I believe we can finish in the top four. Tottenham are fourth but we have a couple of games in hand,"

he said.

"We can do it by going on a run. United is always a special game but the three points are also important in everyone respecting our momentum. The game comes at the right moment.”

“We believe it can be a big game and hopefully we can win,”

Jota continued.

“It will be a big one, for sure. If we win it will give everyone a bit more respect for our momentum - and that's what we will try to do. It is like one of the biggest games in the Premier League, especially for the fans. And it comes at the right moment for us - if you can say that in this season. We are ready to give it a go, but it won't be easy at all.”

Liverpool has not lost at home to Manchester United in the league since January 2016.

Jota also said Man United cannot afford to lose against Liverpool if they want to win the Premier League this season.

“If they (United) really believe they can win the Premier League then losing points isn't really an option,"

the Portuguese forward said.

“It will be a hard knock for them, but they are still involved in a lot and they have had a really tremendous season after a shaky start."

Jota joined Liverpool from Wolves in 2020. He scored 13 goals in his first season and 20 in his second. He has won EFL Cup and FA Cup with the Reds.
