Carragher: 'Scary' Nunez has similarities with Torres

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes Darwin Nunez has made a huge impact and compares him with Fernando Torres.

The 23-year-old Nunez joined

Liverpool

from Benfica last summer in a deal worth up to €100 million.

He started his career in England with a red card in his second game and was under pressure after a six-game scoreless streak, but in recent games, the Uruguay international has been promising and scored his sixth goal of the season in the Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Napoli on Tuesday.

"It's really interesting watching Nunez,"

Carragher told CBS.

"He comes on and he makes a huge impact. He hasn't set the world alight, he hasn't done what [Erling] Haaland's done and people would've expected more for the price-tag.

"But when you look at his minutes on the pitch and how many goals he's scored per minute, his numbers are scary. He's actually made a huge impact."

Nunez

has scored five goals in his last seven games. He has scored a goal every 106 minutes for Jurgen Klopp’s side. Carragher believes Nunez needs to improve his all-around game but compared him with former Liverpool star Fernando Torres.

He added:

"But there's still something not quite there, where Jurgen Klopp is going to play him every single game.

"I think he's got [similarities to] Fernando Torres. He's got that power, physically, to knock defenders off, that blistering pace. But at times, maybe technically, [he is] not the best in terms of general play."
