United’s 6-3 defeat by City is “hugely embarrassing”, says Keane

Roy Keane believes that the Red Devils players should be “embarrassed” following their disappointing performance against Manchester City that resulted in their 6-3 loss.

Manchester United were thrashed in their battle against Manchester City as they suffered a 6-3 loss. They found themselves four goals behind before the break. Erling Haaland and Phil Foden gave their side a thumping victory with their hat-tricks, while Antony tried to lessen the gap for United by goal as well as Anthony Martial who netted a brace.

The performance they displayed against City made

Roy Keane

very disappointed as he said some strong words to the team:

“Man City were magnificent. Watching Man City, it is a pleasure. Watching them live, they are one of the best teams I’ve ever seen. But Man United, [it’s] a huge setback for them. We were giving them a little bit of praise over the last few weeks, but this is a huge step back.

“Four-nil down at half-time – they were 4-0 down at Brentford – and the performance in the second half, it’s no good, even as consolation. They scored a few goals, [but] the game’s over [by then]. There’s nothing for Man United to take out of this game. From the players’ point of view, they really should be embarrassed. You can’t go in at half-time 4-0 down in a derby game, it’s hugely embarrassing."

United were enjoying a run of four victories in the Premier League before the battle against City, but the derby loss put them nine points adrift of the league leaders Arsenal, whereas City are only one point behind Mikel Arteta’s side. This game also marked City’s first time to have scored six goals against United in a home match. United will return to action on Thursday when they lock horns with Omonia Nicosia in the Europa League. Following that, they will go against Everton.
