Real Madrid maintain perfect start with derby win over Atletico

Real Madrid stayed at the top of the La Liga table with victory in a fiery derby against Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano on Sunday.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side defeated

Atletico Madrid

2-1 in Madrid’s derby on Sunday to restore their two-point lead over Barcelona in LaLiga.

Real Madrid

has all of their six games this season in La Liga. Atletico is in seventh place in the table with just 10 points.

Criticism of

Vinicius Junior’s

goal celebrations had caused controversy ahead of the game. The forward on Friday hit back at the attacks and condemned what he has described as the racist criticism.

Real Madrid opened the scoring in the 18th minute through Rodrygo. The Brazilian forward cuts in from the left and played a pass to Tchouameni, who lifted the ball over the top of the defense in order to return it to Rodrygo. Felipe couldn’t get on the end of it, which allowed Rodrygo to steal in and tuck his finish past Oblate from close range.

Federico Valverde scored the second goal for Ancelotti’s side in the 36th minute. Vinicius book into the penalty area with unmistakable speed. Oblate made a great close-range reaction save which pushed the ball onto the far post but Valverde was there to take care of the rebound and finished the move.

Mario Hermoso who came on the pitch in the second half scored for Atletico in the 83rd minute. Simeone’s side punished their opponent's mistakes at the back as Griezmann’s corner-kick was missed by Courtois, which allowed Hermoso to shoulder the ball into the back of the net.

Hermoso who got his team back into the match with his goal was sent off in the 91st minute after picking up his second yellow card.
