EFL postpone Friday fixtures following Queen’s death

The English Football League has confirmed its scheduled games on Friday have been postponed following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

Queen Elizabeth

II has died. Buckingham Palace confirmed on Thursday the long-serving monarch had passed away in Balmoral.

Burnley was set to play Norwich at home in the Championship on Friday night. In League Two, Tranmere was also set to play Stockport. In a statement, the EFL said, "As a mark of respect, following the death of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II earlier today, the EFL has announced that the Burnley vs. Norwich City and Tranmere Rovers vs. Stockport County games scheduled for Friday, September 9 have been canceled."

"A decision about the rest of this weekend's games will be made on Friday morning after a review of the official mourning guidance and more conversations with DCMS and other sports."
