Keane says Ten Hag had a sleepless night after watching Man Utd game

Roy Keane says Erik ten Hag will be sleepless after Manchester United's poor performance against Chelsea on Thursday night, when they were held to a 1-1 draw.

According to Roy Keane

, Erik ten Hag

would have a "sleepless night" if he watched

Manchester United

draw 1-1 with

Chelsea

on Thursday night.

The Blues dominated the game at Old Trafford but failed to take advantage of their opportunities, leaving them only a point to take back to London. Marcos Alonso finally broke the deadlock with a blistering strike at the hour mark, but

Cristiano Ronaldo

equalized only two minutes later.

However, Keane was convinced that United's lackluster performance would have worried the club's new manager. After scoring his 17th Premier League goal against the Londoners, the Irishman predicted that he and Ronaldo would have a falling out over the veteran's playing time.

After the game, Keane told

Sky Sports

: "He (Ten Hag) will have been watching the game and probably had a sleepless night after watching the squad, but I believe that if you have a player who can score that many goals, they must be included. (Cristiano) Ronaldo will want to play, but that could be a problem when the new manager arrives, as he may want to bring in another striker.

"Ronaldo, on the other hand, will not be able to maintain his position week after week. I believe he won't mind being rested for the occasional league cup game or European match if they are already through. Still, we saw the disappointment against Chelsea and Manchester City, and he wants to play week in and week out, which could be a problem for the manager if he needs to rotate him in certain games."

Keane had claimed earlier that Ten Hag was a "good appointment" for United, but he conceded that the Ajax manager must be given a "big say" in overhauling the current playing squad if the club is to turn their fortunes around.

"Look at the starting 11; it's not a good team," he said. It's not enough to be at the top of the game. Most importantly, in terms of skill level and technique, I believe the mentality has been the biggest letdown in recent months. Of course, I believe he can improve slightly, and we talk about recruitment and how difficult it has been for players like Varane and

Jadon Sancho

, who have joined Manchester United in the last year or two.

They've joined a team where the culture is not positive. The performances indicate that the dressing room isn't in good shape. "It's a case of rebuilding the club and bringing in players who will give it their all every week." When it comes to recruitment, you hope the manager has a significant say because prior managers have all complained their hands were tied a little bit, which is a concern."
