Steven Nzonzi: Roma midfielder close to Al Rayyan move

Roma midfielder Steven Nzonzi will travel to Qatar today to discuss a possible move to Al Rayyan, according to Sky Sport Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

The Frenchman is close to signing a deal with Al Rayyan despite turning down a number of offers from the Qatari club throughout the summer.

However, The Qatari side remained persistent in their pursuit of Nzonzi and finally received the OK from the French midfielder within the last few hours. Both parties are working to formalize the deal and it could be completed in the coming hours.

Nzonzi's current deal expires in June 2022, but

Roma

are willing to let him sign with

Al-Rayyan

for free, as they can save €6 million in salary.

The 32-year-old midfielder signed for Roma from Sevilla in the summer of 2018.

After making over 30 appearances in 2018-2019, the French midfielder has spent the past few seasons on loan, first with

Galatasaray

and then

Rennes

in Ligue 1, where he failed to impress.

Al Rayyan also completed the signing of

Everton

playmaker

James Rodriguez

earlier this week.
