Laporta on Super League: "It's a live project, UEFA cannot impede it"

Despite the Super League collapsing within 48 hours of its introduction, Barcelona chairman Joan Laporta still feels it is a feasible construct.

When 12 teams from across Europe decided to join the doomed initiative, it now feels like a fading memory.

Within two days, all of the English clubs had withdrawn, and the most had followed suit, leaving just

Real Madrid

,

Barcelona

, and

Juventus

in the competition.

Those three teams are the only ones left in the project, and it appears that it will not be completed.

But the Catalans president

Laporta

continues to believe, saying on Monday, as quoted by

Diario AS

:

"It's a live project. The three clubs that defended it, we continue winning in the tribunals.

"UEFA cannot impede it. What happened could have been presented better."

Suppose the teams still engaged win the abovementioned tribunals. In that case, they may not be penalized, but the initiative has little chance of resuming without the

Premier League

clubs, who presently control the industry.

The Premier League clubs have not only guaranteed supporters that they will never participate in the idea again, but all proprietors have reached an agreement to a new "Owners' charter" with the Premier League, which states that no team will be permitted to participate in any type of Super League.

Participating in such a scheme would result in a hefty punishment for any Premier League side.

The final barrier will not go into effect until that agreement is signed, but considering that it has already been accepted in principle, the Super League seems to be shattered.
