Leno responds to Arsenal exit rumors

The German goalkeeper has been linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium in recent weeks.

Bernd Leno

’s name is among

Arsenal

players who are rumored to be headed toward an exit in the summer transfer window. The German goalkeeper has established himself as the club’s number one goalkeeper since his transfer from

Bayer Leverkusen

in 2018. However,

Mikel Arteta

’s plans to reshape the Gunners’ squad have generated doubts over the 29-year-old’s future at the club.

"I don't want to flee here, I feel good and want to be successful again with Arsenal!"

Leno told

Sport 1

.

"Arsenal are a big club, which is extremely underestimated in Germany, there are many Arsenal fans all over the world.

"I still have a two-year contract and hope to play in the Champions League again with Arsenal."

Following his severe injury at the end of the 2019-20 campaign, Leno was set to be replaced by

Emiliano Martinez

in the Gunners’ squad. However, the club sold the Argentinian goalkeeper to

Aston Villa

for £20m.

He added:

"It is also clear that at some point in my career I want to do something different," he added. "So far I've played for two clubs. Maybe I'll get the urge to play in another league again. Maybe in the south.

"But there is time, I'm still getting to the prime goalkeeping age. But my focus is on Arsenal FC."

Arsenal will play their next Premier League match against

Crystal Palace

on Wednesday.
