Arteta defends Leno after the goalie recieved red card

Arteta's nine-man squad lost to the Wolves tonight, but the Spanish coach defended his team's goalkeeper

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta defended the Bern Leno after the goalkeeper was sent off in the Gunners' defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Leno and David Luiz both received direct red cards in tonight's match against

Arsenal

to make the nine-man Arsenal suffer a 2-1 defeat. Just before the end of the first half, Luis received a straight red card for an foul he made on Willian Jose and awarded a penalty to his opponent.

Leno was sent off by the referee in the 72nd minute for touching the ball with his hand outside the box, and Arteta defended his team's goalkeeper after the match.

"I imagine he makes the decision in a split of a second,"

the Arsenal boss said

, "and naturally he tries to stop the ball. There's nothing he can do."

He added: "It's hard enough to win football games in the league. Those big decisions are like that but it's nothing we can change at the moment."

Following Leno's dismissal, Arteta played for Alex Ronarson, who was transferred from Dijon to Arsenal in the summer. He was making his sixth appearance for Arsenal and has not played well in the limited time he has played in the first team.
