Back in that year, Cesar Menotti, then coach of Argentina, chose to unexpectedly remove the 17-year-old Maradona from his 1978 World Cup squad; a stand that was vindicated as Argentina won the home soil tournament. He had no trouble entrusting responsibility for the FIFA World Youth Championships a year later to the talented Argentinos Juniors playmaker.

Along with Ramon Diaz, el Diego had too much for any opponent in Japan and Argentina claimed the trophy with 20 goals scored and only two conceded. Maradona went home with the player of the tournament award; he displayed his awesome potential with expertise shining through in his range of dribbling, passing, finishing, and dead-ball acumen.

Four goals against Boca Juniors, 1980

. Maradona scored four goals in Boca Juniors 5-3 win against Argentinos Juniors back in 1980.

The outspoken Boca Juniors goalkeeper, Hugo Gatti, claimed during an interview in 1980 that Diego Maradona was a 'gordito' who could play football very well. Gordito means a fat kid. Maradona was still with his first professional club, Argentinos Juniors, and he didn't take the backhanded compliment too kindly.

 When the clubs next met, he promised to score four goals. Bear in mind that, despite the involvement of Maradona, Argentinos Juniors were a relatively modest team. Anyway, on his promise, Diego duly delivered, scoring from the penalty spot and with a cute flick. Two sublime free-kicks were buried as well. Not bad for a fat boy, you know.

That is the most notorious match in the career of the most controversial player in the game. A few years ago, England played against the backdrop of war in the Falklands/Malvinas, taking on Diego's Argentina for a spot in the semifinals of the World Cup.

The two most memorable goals in the history of the World Cup. Maradona attempted a pass to Jorge Valdano early in the second half but only succeeded in reaching Steve Hodge.

The English midfielder looped the ball to his own net, causing a 1.65m aerial duel between Maradona and Peter Shilton, the 1.85m goalkeeper. Argentina's captain lofted the ball beyond Shilton and into the net with a flick of his left hand.

Maradona bellowed for them to join him in celebration for fear of the referee, Ali Bin Nasser, disallowing the score, with his teammates unaware of what to do next. The number 10 Argentina claimed after the match that the goal was scored "with a little Maradona and a little Hand of God". The remainder is history.

However, that was not all for this match, as Maradona continued bringing honor to the team with his goal of the century, which is absolutely famous.

If England knew that after the first goal was scored, they were just in the presence of a devious huckster, they could have no doubt about the skill that Maradona exuded with his second strike of the game only three minutes later, being regarded as the Goal of the Century.

we have to go back to the 1986 World Cup Final where Argentina defeated West Germany with a 3-2 result.

West Germany wasn't in the mood to be bossed around by him, having seen Maradona disgrace both England and Belgium. Franz Beckenbauer's boys had hardly inspired him on the way to the final, though – they squeaked through the group behind Denmark, slammed past Morocco, defeated Mexico on penalties, and finally clicked into gear with a 2-0 victory over France in the semis.

Beckenbauer ordered his troops to double up and go hard on the talisman of Argentina, but that just gave his team-mates room to work in. After 55 minutes, Junior Brown and Jorge Valdano's goals had Carlos Bilardo's side 2-0 up, but West Germany battled back to level with 10 minutes remaining through Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Rudi Voller's efforts.

Diego Move Forward. There was no apparent danger when in the middle circle, he turned with a bouncing ball, not least with two green shirts quickly bearing down on him. But he played Jorge Burruchaga with an impeccable vision and a swish of the left boot to hare down the right and jab home an 83rd-minute winner.

Maradona's death

On 2 November 2020, Maradona was admitted, supposedly for psychological reasons, to a hospital in La Plata. The retired footballer's representative said that his condition was not extreme.

He had emergency brain surgery a day later to treat a subdural hematoma, a blood clot on his brain. After successful surgery, he was released on 12 November and was monitored by doctors. On 25 November 2020, at the age of 60, Maradona died at his home in Tigre, Buenos Aires, of a heart attack.

"its deepest sorrow for the death of our legend" the Argentine Football Association expressed in a statement on social media, adding: "You will always be in our hearts."
