Paris Saint-Germain January Transfer window of 2022: Live Updates

Paris Saint-Germain has been an interesting name, especially in the transfer market. Let's have a look at PSG's January 2022 transfers.

PSG now has one of the most expensive squads in the world. They have two world class goalkeepers,

Keylor Navas

and

Gianluigi Donnarumma

. They added Nuno Mendes, Sergio Ramos, and

Achraf Hakimi

to their defensive line. Their forwards are even more terrifying having Leonel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, and Mauro Icardi are simply more than enough.

The last Ligue 1 title slipped out of PSG's hands but it seems that they have secured their lead in the standings. The question is what a team does during the

January transfer window of 2022

, while they already have whomever they want? The answer is that the team should get rid of the players they don't want anymore. The matter is that PSG is going to the next level of a club's leadership and they may want something different from now on.

Rafinha

In one of the

PSG winter 2022 latest transfers and news

,

Rafinha

leaves Paris to join Real Sociedad on loan until the end of the season. The 28 years old midfielder after the signing of

Georginio Wijnaldum

, was not receiving much time to play at Paris Saint-Germain. Rafinha joined PSG in 2020 from Barcelona and after making 39 appearances for the French club, has returned to La Liga.

Real Sociedad is battling over Champions League qualification places in the standings. The Spanish side is doing great since Imanol Alguacil became their manager. For Rafinha, it is less challenging to claim his spot in the starting 11 of Sociedad rather than start for PSG. He was not included in PSG's squad list for the Champions League competition. Instead he could play for Sociedad in Europa League facing RB Leipzig.

The versatile midfielder will return to Paris at the end of his contract with Sociedad because there's one year and a half remaining from his contract with PSG. The player himself is excited about the move because it gives him a chance to get his career back on track.

Sergio Rico

Sergio Rico

left Paris Saint-Germain on a loan deal with La Liga club Mallorca. The 28 years old goalkeeper agreed to a short loan until the end of the season. Sergio started his professional career at his hometown team Sevilla. Rico made his debut for the senior team in 2014. He made his European debut days after that and eventually ended the season with 37 appearances.

Rico won two consecutive Europa League titles as Sevilla goalkeeper in 2014-15 and 2015-16. Rico was capped once for Spain's national team in 2016 during a friendly match against South Korea. In 2017-18, his spot as the main goalkeeper was challenged by David Soria. Rico was loaned to Premier League club Fulham for the 2018-19 season. He appeared in 29 Premier League games for Fulham. After the West London club was relegated, Sevilla loaned him to Paris Saint-Germain. The French side had the option to buy Rico out in the season-long loan deal.

PSG signed him as the substitute for Keylor Navas and he had a total of 10 appearances in the first season. PSG made his deal permanent with a €6 million buyout clause. Rico played in 10 Ligue 1 games during the 2020-21 season, meanwhile, PSG signed Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma for the 2021-22 season. As the third option goalkeeper, Rico was not likely to play for PSG and it was time to go on another loan. Returning to La Liga may help Rico restore his form.
