Best France men's Volleyball players of Tokyo 2020 Olympics

Well, the Olympics are over and we have reached the last station, and I must say that surprisingly and contrary to all predictions, it was the French volleyball team that won the Olympics. Join us to get to know the best French men's volleyball players at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

In international events and friendly matches, France men's national volleyball team represents the country. It has been the reigning European Champion since 2015 and is now rated 4th in the FIVB world rankings.

France has competed in the World League since its inception in 1990 and has done so regularly since 1999. They finished second to Brazil in 2006, but future seasons were marred by failure. They almost missed out on the Final Six in 2009, falling to Argentina at the last hurdle.

They had another setback in 2010 when they finished 12th after missing the finals for the second year in a row. In Rio 2016, France competed in its fourth Olympic Games, finishing ninth. Their greatest ever Olympic result was in Seoul in 1988, when they finished eighth. In 2015, France was the European Championship and World League gold medallist.

France qualified for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo by winning the European Olympic Qualification Tournament in Berlin. The French team progressed throughout the tournament, defeating Slovenia in five sets in the semifinals before defeating hosts Germany 3-0 in the final.

France competed in the men's Olympic volleyball category for the fifth time in Tokyo. Up until this time, they have never advanced past the group round. They won two of their five games in Rio in 2016 but were eliminated before the knockout round after losses to Italy, the United States of America, and Brazil.

The French team has only ever won one medal at the world championships, a bronze in Argentina in 2002. France failed to improve on their fourth-place finish in 2014 at the 2018 World Cup, as a decisive loss to Serbia in the second group phase meant they did not advance to the next round.

France won the World League in 2017 but had to settle for silver in the first Nations League in 2018 after losing in the final to the Russian team. They failed to advance to the semifinals of the 2019 edition after losing both games in the final group round against their American and Russian opponents.

France named a 12-player roster to compete in the Volleyball competition at the 2020 Summer Olympics. It was their second Olympic appearance for half of them, Benjamin Toniutti, Earvin Ngapeth, Jenia Grebennikov, Kevin Tillie, Nicolas Le Goff, and Trevor Clevenot, who competed in Rio 2016 five years ago.

Before announcing his final choice to the players on the premises of the FIVB Volleyball Nations League in Rimini, coach Laurent Tillie decided on the last remaining question concerning his selection for the year's biggest event.

He had to limit himself to only four outside hitters. Coach Tillie released Thibault Rossard and kept Ngapeth, Tillie, Clevenot, and Yacine Louati in place of Julien Lyneel, who left for medical reasons. Antoine Brizard, Barthelemy Chinenyeze, Daryl Bulter, Jean Patry, Stephen Boyer, and Yacine Louati are the six players who will make their Olympic debut in Tokyo 2020.

Mousse Gueye and Benjamin Diez, in addition to the 12 chosen Olympians, represented France in the VNL matches in Italy. The team flew to Japan on July 4 to complete their preparations and play a friendly match against Iran in Okinawa before arriving in Tokyo on July 19, five days before their tournament opener against the United States.
