Newcastle star Bruno Guimaraes injury less serious than thought

Newcastle star Bruno Guimaraes has avoided serious damage to his ankle after he was substituted in tears against Fulham on Sunday.

According to the English press,

Guimaraes

was sent for a scan on Monday and the results have shown he has not suffered a serious injury and will be sidelined for a few weeks.

Sky Sports claims that Guimaraes will miss the game against Crystal Palace, but could be ready for the Carabao Cup semi-final against Southampton.

Guimaraes suffered a painful injury during Sunday’s 1-0 win over Fulham. He rolled his ankle in the first half but decided to stay on the pitch.

The Brazilian international left the field in tears at half-time and

Newcastle

manager

Eddie Howe

later said he regrets his decision to let Guimaraes stays on the pitch.

He told Sky Sports:

"Bruno was very distressed. He was in a lot of pain. With one of the challenges, he twisted his ankle and felt he could run it off.

"Obviously he couldn't, he asked for his ankle to be strapped and he just signalled with about 30 seconds of the first half left that he needed to be withdrawn.

"It's one of those where you tend to go with the player, how he feels. Is he able to execute what he needed to? I thought he played very well in the first half.

"We'll see how serious it is, but we are light in midfield.”

Guimaraes who joined Newcastle last January for a reported fee of up to £40m, has scored 9 goals in 38 matches.
