National Ethics Council demands Le Graet resign after insulting Zidane

Despite Zidane being rooted as Deschamps's replacement at France following their World Cup final defeat, French Football Federation opted to extend Didier Deschamps's contract with the president saying he wouldn't even have picked up the phone to interview Zidane.

French legend

Zinedine Zidane

reportedly was set to replace Didier Deschamps as

France

's manager after the 2022 World Cup but French Football Federation confirmed on Saturday that Deschamps has signed a new four-year contract until the 2026 World Cup.

In an interview on Sunday, the French Football Federation president

Noel Le Graet

said that he doesn’t “give a toss” whether Zidane becomes Brazil's manager and he wouldn’t even pick up the phone if the former Real Madrid manager called him.

Although the Frenchman issued an apology, the National Ethics Council demands the FFF president step down from his position in a hostile statement.

President Le Graet made remarks which show that he has lost some of his lucidity,"

said Patrick Anton, the head of the council. "

He is a man who is tired, who needs to move on."

The organization added in a statement:

"We call on the president of the federation to withdraw from his duties and therefore to resign. We are not going to spoil the good financial and sporting results of the FFF with a soap opera that is more a matter of the news page than of the football section."
