Diego Simeone takes the blame for failing Atletico’s “great squad”

Ahead of their La Liga return on Friday, Atletico's boss took the blame for their disappointing start of the season. The coach believes his squad can turn things around.

Sitting fifth in the La Liga table, 13 points behind the league leaders Barcelona,

Atletico Madrid

boss admits he as the coach let down his talented squad. However, he claims they can challenge the La Liga title.

Diego Simeone

told his press conference:

"We have a great squad – four players in the World Cup final.

"Maybe the one who is not giving everything is the coach. We have a great squad. I'm the one I have to improve so they can raise their level in La Liga.

"They are more or less the same names that won La Liga, except [Kieran] Trippier and [Luis] Suarez.

"The base of the La Liga starters are here; there's [Angel] Correa, [Yannick] Carrasco, Joao [Felix], [Jose] Gimenez... we added [Antoine] Griezmann.

"The coach is the one who is failing more than anything else."

Instead of focusing on the winter transfer window, Simeone is eager to get his key men fit.

"

When we have been on all four legs, we become strong. We need all four legs and that strength

," he said.

"We have proven it for many years and we will continue to."
