Varan warns France not to be complacent against Morocco

United defender Raphael Varane has urged his teammates not to “fall into trap” of complacency when they face Morocco on Wednesday.

Morocco has done the unthinkable by reaching the World Cup semi-finals, becoming the first African nation to do so in the World Cup history but the underdog nature of Morocco and the star-studded France has led to

Raphael Varane

warning France not to downplay Morocco as a threat.

"We have enough experience to avoid falling into this trap (of being over confident). They've reached that stage for a reason. They defend very well, it will be extremely difficult. We, the leaders of the team, have to prepare all the players for another battle.”

Varane told reporters in a pre-match news conference.

"It's a World Cup semi-final, you need to give everything until the end if you want to deserve your place in the final. They're writing Moroccan football history, they have a collective force with performances that give them a lot of confidence."

France are the heavy favorites going into the match, also being the favorites to defend their 2018 title but Morocco is yet to lose a game at this World Cup and have only conceded once which was from an own goal.

While Varane

may find someone other than Upamecano

partnering him at the back, France won’t have an easy time facing Morocco on Wednesday.
