Lazio hopes Juventus fallout help them keep Milinkovic-Savic

Juventus was heavily interested in signing Lazio midfielder as they planned to snatch him in the coming transfer window. However, with the tax scandal the club encountered, Lazio president hopes to keep the Serbian beyond his one year-and-a-half contract with the club.

Joining Lazio from Genk in 2015,

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic

rapidly established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Serie A being named

Lazio

player of the season for last consecutive years.

It was earlier reported that

Juventus

are ready to offer Lazio a fee of €50m offer plus bonuses for the Serbian midfielders. However, with a mass resignation at the Bianconeri's board, Lazio president Claudio Lotito believes their chances of keeping the midfielder has risen.

Speaking at the Colalucci Awards, Lotito said:

"From a technical point of view, Lazio have an interest in renewing him because he is a great player, a player on whom the club is betting.

Instead of critisizing the Juve board, Lotito defended the club as investigations over a tax fraud are going on.

"

Today everyone speaks badly of Juve, but they have contributed to the livelihood of Italian football,"

he added.

"To say that Juve are the evil of Italian football is unfair. Today everyone goes out of their way to create dissent against Juventus."
