Morata: If Spain wins the World Cup, I'll take the Golden Boot to Mbappe on my bike

Spain striker Alvaro Morata believes the shocking defeat against Japan will help them for the rest of the World Cup.

Spain

finished in second place in their group after a shocking 2-1 defeat against Japan. They will face Morocco in the last 16 round on Tuesday.

Ahead of the game against Morocco,

Alvaro Morata

who has scored three goals at

the 2022 World Cup

said he is happy the shocking defeat happened in the group stage, rather than the knockout stage.

“Sometimes it’s not so bad that something like this happens, because when you see everything clearly… If they had hit us in the round of 16, we would have been crying for four years. You have to think that it has already happened, that it was a mess on our part and that Japan were good.”

“What you have to think about is that the failure occurred when there was still a chance to remedy it, in the group stage. And to think that we are in the playoffs thanks to the great result against Costa Rica, which seemed easy…”

The 30-year-old Morata also said he will be happy to win the golden boot but he prefers to win the World Cup with Spain.

“Well, I value it, but for the joy of scoring with the National Team and helping the team. I wish we were world champions even if I never set foot on the pitch again. If they tell me that I have to go home but that Spain wins the World Cup, then I'm going home and they give us the Cup.”

Kylian Mbappe is the top scorer of the tournament with five goals and Morata who has scored three goals said he will travel to France on his bike to give the Golden Boot to Mbappe in exchange for the World Cup trophy.

"I would take the Boot by bicycle to France in exchange for Spain being World Champion!"
