Rakitic: “Croatia should award Belgium’s misfiring Lukaku a vacation”

After coming off the bench to score Belgium's most-needed winner against Croatia on Thursday, Romelu Lukaku missed many chances as he was the subject of many criticisms. The former Croatia international trolls the Belgian ahead of his country's qualification for the next round.

Belgium

needed to beat Croatia to progress past the group stages but failed to find the back of the net and was knocked out of the World Cup.

Croatia

finished in second place after Morocco in Group F with five points.

Romelu Lukaku

came on at half-time as he missed a sitter for his country which could have won his country qualification to the next round.

After the final whistle, the former Barcelona and Croatia midfielder

Rakitic

, who announced his retirement in 2020 after making 106 caps, trolled the Inter striker in a video on Instagram. He said:

"Let’s go Lukaku! We have to give him a month of vacation in Split. Let’s go

!"

On the other side,

Ivan Perisic

was among those who consoled the former Chelsea and Manchester United striker. He told his post-match interview:

“I was with him for two or three minutes after the game. This is football, once you score, another time you miss. He’s a really strong player.

“Now I hope he can win as many trophies as possible with the Inter shirt. For us the most important thing was to pass the group. We played a good game, as did they. But I think, considering the three games, we deserved to go ahead in this World Cup.”
