Rui Jorge accuses Liverpool’s Fabio Carvalho of disrespecting Portugal

Despite being named in Rui Jorge's squad for

Under-21 friendlies against the Czech Republic and Japan, the

midfielder has informed that he won't represent the nation at this age level anymore. Making 11 Premier League appearances, Rui Jorge believes the Reds’ wonderkid has been disrespectful to his nation.

Jorge told his press conference:

"We are from different generations, I know, but I thought he would call and that we could talk. I make a point of telling all the players that only I want in this space anyone who really wants to be here."

An earlier statement from the Portuguese FA read:

“Fabio Carvalho informed the Portuguese Football Federation, through some SMS [text] messages, that he does not intend to continue representing Portugal at Under-21 level. This decision by the player was communicated after the squad for the preparation games with the Czech Republic and Japan was known.”

was officially unveiled as a Liverpool FC player in early July 2022. Although he scored a dramatic winner against Newcastle United in the 98th minute on August 31st, some fans and people from the media have agreed that he has looked lost in some of his games.

Before, the young star kicked the ball for the Fulham youth team for five years. He found his way to Fulham’s senior team in 2020 and played for them until May 2022, at which point he joined Liverpool FC for a reported fee of £5.31 million.
